I know what Hasbro has said about ROC and how its success will effect how other GI Joe lines do, but I call BS on this one.
Suggesting I have to pay for crap, in the hopes that some day I might get something I will like, is spurious. That's like Mcdonald's saying, "I know you all like Big Macs, and I know they sell well, but we've got the McRib, so if McRibs don't sell well, Big Macs will be in jeapardy in the future. So buy McRibs." What? That makes no sense. Why cut off a money maker cause your new product sucks? If anything, ROC will be reduced in production and ceased entirely if it sucks, while more resources will be put into the other lines that people actually want. It's obvious that we are not the target audience. Case in point? Compare the movie Night Raven to the vintage one. NO COMPARISON. The vintage one is the Raven that the fandom wants. If the movie line makes a ton of money, that's money that can be used to tool up more modern era vehicles. That's what I want to see, more stuff for us, I don't want to wait until the 30th anniversary to see more classic joe stuff. Bottom line is, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Whether or not collectors don't buy the ROC stuff won't really matter as much as whether or not kids buy it. Sure we make up a good number of sales but kids outnumber us. I don't suggest buying up all ROC product nor boycotting the line. I suggest only buying what you want, and posting what you'd like to see in the future. I was definitely going to buy the movie Raven but after seeing the video review, I'm not buying one unless a running change is implemented. I was surprised that it had all those shortcomings out of the box. Alas, that's more money saved towards buying a vintage one and repro-stickers for it. Quote:
We're the consumer, remember? We're ultimately in charge.
If the movie line does really well, the budgets to tool up more new toys in the future increases. All movie lines end and at that point, that's when Hasbro usually releases classic stuff in the interim. Being that the 25th/Modern Era line did well, there is no reason not to expect it to return after the movie. |

That being said, I'm sure the 25th/modern line will be around for a long time. So long as Hasbro is around, there will be a 30th anniversary, a 40th anniversary, a 50th anniversary... whatever they can make money on I'm sure. For those who think it is the be-all, end-all, don't be silly. If ROC falls flat, which it probably won't, it won't be the end of other Joe lines. |

of course, kids outnumber GI Joe collectors. the question is how many of those kids will be buying / coaxing their parents to buy the RoC products? obviously, Hasbro is hoping for a lot of kids to join up. time will tell I suppose.

Awesome! But I myself was thinking more along the lines of more detailed fictional knowledge, such as the difference between Autobot Mirage's electro-disruptor and Autobot Blaster's electro-scrambler. ( Not that Michael Bay would give a $h!+ ) If I didn't spend money on Joes & TFs, I'd love to be your student when you make teacher. I'll Back to the Future for extra credit.

One thing is certain in my opinion though, compared to other 3-3/4" movie toys like Star Trek and Terminator, the Rise of Cobra toys look far superior. Seems like the reception for Star Trek and Terminator toys is lukewarm also, the stores I see around here are flooded with them(I thought the ST movie was great, Terminator was good, not great, not bad). This is not typical of highly successful movies. Transformers toys were nearly impossible to find here for months after the movie premiered. |

ah, i don't know... i think changing ones spending habits in an attempt to try to predict Hasbro's whims is a futile effort. if everyone just buys what they want, and does not buy what they don't want, things will sort themselves out. that's generally the way things like this work.

I don't buy everything.
But I really don't want to pay 50+ for Wild Weasel and Motor Viper movie editions. I'm hoping they either surface from China soon or something. I'm only buying a select number of Cobras from this line, namely because I have to save my money. But I just hope they are easy to find. |
