It's April Fools so take with a grain of salt.
'G.I. Joe 3' Nabs 'Section 6' Writer (Exclusive) - The Hollywood Reporter I love this quote: "The first two installments have proven to be box office hits — Rise of Cobra grossed $302 million while 2013’s Retaliation shot up $375 million – although fans have not exactly been crying “Go, Joe!” for sequels."

I love the quote because they got the "Yo Joe" wrong and the part about fans not being Gung-Ho for the 3rd movie is true for the most part. I just like the part that shows how well both the other movies did.

EDIT: Looks like Troynos already reported about the following. (Thanks to the Mods for merging the threads). Below is just additional info...
A newly hired talented writer will help to pen a potentially better script for Joe's next film; slated for 2017. HollywoodReporter.com says Paramount wants to reverse ongoing bad fan reviews, experienced in past Joe films. As a bonus, the film delay may (hopefully) free up yet another year for Toys R Us exclusives in 2016. Whereas I personally http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...0s-arah-3.html !!! HollywoodReporter: "Aaron Berg, the writer behind Section 6, the hot spec that detailed the origins of British intelligence agency MI6, is now tackling a different mission. The scribe has been tapped to pen a new script for G.I. Joe 3, and will work with director D.J. Caruso to revamp the action franchise based on the Hasbro toyline. The first two installments have proven to be box office hits — Rise of Cobra grossed $302 million while 2013’s Retaliation shot up $375 million – although fans have not exactly been crying “Go, Joe!” for sequels. Paramount hopes to change that with Caruso and Berg." DenofGeek.com: "G.I. Joe 3 making a 2016 release seem slim, as Paramount hires a writer to start over on the project. The current plan with G.I. Joe 3 is for Paramount to have the film in cinemas at some point in 2016, but to date, that's not been confirmed. Certainly the studio is going to need to get a crack on to meet such a deadline, as production does not seem close to starting. Furthermore, the studio has hired a new writer to take a crack at the script." EmpireOnline.com: "D.J. Caruso is confirmed as directing, and now Section 6 writer Aaron Berg is aboard to re-write the script... Evan Daugherty was the last person to take a crack at the script, which back in 2013 was said to be returning some characters from the first movie to rejoin the ranks alongside the likes of Dwayne Johnson’s Roadblock. There are no details on the direction that Caruso and Berg plan to take the story in The Hollywood Reporter’s word on the film. Berg landed on the Hollywood radar thanks to his buzzed-about, bidding-war-sparking script about the early days of MI6." 'G.I. I can't elaborate how much I would to see cobra la revisited. The cgi today would be capable of making it believable. I think the original storyline was cool enough.
