I don't want to see any GI Joe live-action or even animated movies. GI Joe works as a comic and a cartoon series, but it's too goofy and hokey for anything over an hour-long runtime. And it definitely doesn't work as anything "serious." Especially if's just generic nerd "serious" like Resolute. Look at She-Hulk, a great, iconic character, handled poorly in that Disney + series. Look at Guardians of the Galaxy...some C-list characters made iconic by James Gunn. |

Dark Power rangers and the last ronin (turtles) are some Of the most epic relaunches of soft shows ever produced. Joe needs that. Desperately. It cannot keep riding this coattail of unfunny slapstick bull shit . Resolute short series even proved this.

And I thought She-Hulk was fun, but I'm not invested in comic characters as comic characters. People outside of comics don't see She-Hulk as "iconic" at all. Matter of fact, most probably didn't even know she was a thing and probably think she's a new character created by Marvel Studios. Same with GOTG, and Gunn knew he had to go silly and fun with them, which is the only reason it worked.

It's a good point, but doing that with a small group of goofy characters is totally different than trying to do it with a bloated, character-filled property with a bloated, character-filled backstory/mythos like GI Joe. By necessity they'll have to scale anything GI Joe back to a core group of characters with a scaled back story, and that's just something Joe fans will be disappointed in. If anything, probably the best way to treat GI Joe, whether live-action or animated, is a streamed series of smaller individual stories that build to an over-arching large story. Like, a Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow series that explores/sets up that facet of the mythos. A Duke/military series that includes the OG 13 maybe and sets up the establishment of GI Joe and Hawk recruiting them. A Scarlett/ladies of Joe series. And, of course, a Cobra Commander and a Destro series that sets up Cobra itself. However it's done, it'll have to be accomplished in bite size chunks.
I'd offer-up 2000's X-Men movie as another example (the costumes were dreadful, though). Quote:

A better, direct comparison would be The Avengers. They're roster is just as bloated. A writer well-versed in the source material would know which characters to include, and what story to tell. That's exactly what happened in 2012. I'd offer-up 2000's X-Men movie as another example (the costumes were dreadful, though).
Phase 1 proved you can remain faithful to the source material and please a general audience. Somewhere along the way, they lost sight of that. I don't think Marvel lost sight of anything. They're doing what they've been doing all along. I think it's just "cool" to hate on it now because everyone is burnt out after Endgame anyway, and ignorant incels are being ignorant incels. Besides, you can't keep nerds happy for long because so many of them are inherently whiny and miserable anyway.

Jesus Christ, this again?
Let's all remember that one big thing happened during that film's production: an industry-wide writer's strike. It's hard to have a good story when the writers aren't writing. Rise of Cobra was rushed and compromised as a result. Considering that, it's surprising it's even coherent, let alone entertaining. Let's also remember that this is a movie for what was still considered a line of kid's toys at the time. They had to make a film that would hopefully appeal to young boys too. I don't know what Retaliation's excuse is. It's just all-around poor filmmaking, but it manages to mostly be entertaining too. Quote:

The main reason why muthafuckas love Resolute so much is because live rounds were being used and muthafuckas were being shot and killed.

Avengers was a product of good storytelling, sure. It was also compromised by not having access to all the related Marvel characters, which actually worked in its favor, I think. Regardless, they weren't really all that faithful to source material and took plenty of liberties, which was necessary because so much of the source material was written for 10 year old boys 60 years ago and cringey as all fuck now.
