I hated the first one, loved the second.
While watching the DVD extras I saw where the folks behind the scenes acknowledged the need to bring the franchise back down to earth a bit after the first movie. Retaliation showed that. I expect the third film to follow that model, the one of more realism. Obviously, since this is G.I. Joe, you're going to have "super tech," but as long as it is not as crazy as ROC I'll be fine. I'm looking forward to 3, can't wait. I hope there is more on-screen story about Cobra Commander. They barely gave him anything as far as character development in Retaliation, but they sure got the look right! Also, I'd like to see Destro come back somehow. It wouldn't be hard to write an escape backstory for him. And let's see Wild Weasel and some other Cobra cronies, they did so good with Firefly I have high hopes.

I threw my PlayStation controller and turned off the first one when I tried to watch it. Then I got drunk and tried to watch it again months later ....same result. I gave the second one two or three tries and never made it past Roadblock going home to the boxing ring community center or wtf ever and just gave up. I hope it doesn't make me a traitor here but I cant stand those Joe movies. Furthermore It embarrasses me to be a lifelong Joe nut that those growling steamers are what most people think I am en enthusiast of now. I don't even know if I will try and watch a third one, unless it wins like 10 Oscars and every critic alive is insisting its the new Blade Runner or something. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice and Great White burns down a night club in Rhode Island singing twice bitten thrice breaking a PlayStation controller...or something

I can't wait to see what they will come up with for the third movie. And would love to see those from the first movie in the third. If they can bring back Storm Shadow from the dead, then Duke can come back as well.

There's really no excuse for how bad ROC was. They pretty much got nothing right in terms of the mythos. I liked Quaid as Hawk, Stormy and SE were ok. Everything else sucked. I liked Retaliation a lot for what it was. While it wasn't as good as it should have been it was fun. At least they gave us an awesome Cobra Commander!
I have high hopes for 3. Give us more classic characters and keep Tatum Duke dead! |

Based on the last two scripts if they don't do a re-imagining for the third installment with new writers, my guess is no.
The second one made absolutely no sense. It was difficult to follow as the transfer between scenes were not fluid. One scene the events take place at night and the very next scene its day time in a different area with the same characters. Just a mess... How about a film that actually follows the threat of Cobra against the world with Joes having a presence in a few areas? How about getting an actor that can convincingly pull of the leader role of Duke? How about adding Stalker, Low-Light and Beachhead to highlight some non-Rockblock/Snake Eyes focused action sequences? Just a thought...

If they start recruiting a bunch of our classic favs (beach head, dial tone, gang ho, low light, etc) and incorporate some new cobras (Maj. Blood, copper head, metal head, etc). I will be tickled pink. The joes kicked cobra's but in the last movie at the end it only makes sense that they would be able to recruit new mmembers, expand their team for a counter attack against cobra. There's your plot right there

I could see everyone complaining about Beachhead if they have him in the movie. Only because he'll never have his mask on. Just look at what they did with Firefly in Retaliation. Two seconds after he'd appear in a scene, he'd be ripping his own mask off. Why even wear it to begin with?
