I think $200 is plenty for green lighting a sequel. I also see it hitting $300 domestic with no problem. I don't think it'll hit $300 in record time, but by the time all is said and done that number should be no problem.
The comparison to Watchmen's huge drop off doesn't really apply to something like GI Joe. For one Watchmen is R and close to twice as long in running time as GI Joe, those two factors are huge as far as box office sales are concerned. Not to mention Watchmen is largely unknown to the general public. Most people have at least heard of GI Joe and might want to check it out because of that plus the kids can go see a PG13 movie whenever they want. I think it'll do just fine and a sequel is almost certain. |

$200 million and it's a done deal.
i think it gets that. probably somewhere between that and $400...$300 is probably closer. the toys and other merchandise will bring in enough that it's gonna get pushed through. if i'm not mistaken, the FF movie didn't just jump out there and it got a sequal. as long as they're making money, why not?

I am not really sure what to vote on. I think as long as they feel the movie was a hit, we will more than likely see a sequel. I am sure they have a value amount that they feel the movie should hit, and i am confident that the movie will make it...

The poll isn't very accurate. I heard somewhere that when ads, distribution, and everyone else involved gets their cut, a movie has to make three times what it cost to break even. DVD has changed that a great deal, but it's still not a set dollar amount, more like a percentage in relation to what any given movie cost to make. A low budget movie could easily get a sequal if it ends up enough in the black.
Edit: Okay, we're talking about the Joe movie specifically. Since 400 million is unlikely, this will depend a great deal on DVD sales and merchandising. Not everything is box-office numbers. |

Hard to say. A lot of factors affect such a decision.
"The Golden Compass" underperformed in the United States but was successful in international markets. However, because of its controversial subject matter (which would have been harder to avoid in the sequels) and also due to not meeting expectations in the States, the second and third films have been cancelled. I think it's safe to say that GIJOE will get at least one sequel, even if it only breaks even and the sequel is direct-to-DVD. The only way I can see that not occurring is if the movie really does become a failure of "Delgo" proportions. And I just don't see that happening. |

It will probably only do 50 to 60 million opening weekend, and then maybe......maybe 20 million the following weekend.....most likely 15 million it's second weekend.
If Paul Blart can do 34 million opening weekend in January, then GI Joe should be able to double that in July/August. Toy sales alone says it gets a sequel.

Gi joe is highly anticipated. Don't under estimate it. Half of the people I know want to see it.
But I think it will make a lot of money. I think CC will be the new Joker. But TF2 won't do as well as anticipated. It is too distracting. They have devastator, pretenders, and too many other characters. Following up a great film with a sequel is always difficult. |
