I'm glad this movie is getting done...not too happy with the changes, but to gripe at unseen product is a waste of vocal energy, or in this case, angry texts.
A ninja with a trenchcoat? A ninja mask with built in lips?(I'm aware of the V2 figure which sported the lips) "Jerry Springer" romances? A vow of silence? Ten years later timeline? Robocop outfits? Wow. Funny sh!!t all over the map. Doesn't sound like what I digged as a kid. I know this film is not catered to diehard fans or people who ride the same yellow bus like me so I'm not expecting too much. I'll be happy sitting there, popcorn and drink in hand, my kids by my side, goosebumps and a bucket of nostalgia in my pockets. Thanks TransFormers for making this happen. So bring on the action, drama, the characters, and plenty of easter eggs.

The whole thing just looks un-cool. By un-cool I mean like your dad with a pair of oakley sunglasses, and a fanny pack un-cool. By un-cool I mean like the guy at work who still says "Do I make you hooorny?" and " I'm Rick James Bitch!" un-cool. The shit just looks un-cool.
I don't care if Ripcord (or anyone else) is black. I don't care that the team is international. With a bad cast, bad script, and a bad director, those are the least of my worries. But with a world of dumbasses who love bad music, bad T.V., and bad movies, I think the movie will be a hit for sure. So no..I'm not really happy this movie is being made anymore. I mean..I wanted it to be made, and now I don't. It's like that book 'Pet Sematary', I loved G.I.Joe, but it died, and I'd do anything to see it come back. Now it has, but it's not the way I remember it. In fact it's a goddamn abomination that I just want to see get sent back to hell where it belongs. |

Frankly, what disturbs me most is that this film has embraced the more sci-fi, James Bond style aspects endemic in the toyline. When G.I. Joe first started out, it was almost exclusively military. Sure, the characters had uniforms in only the loosest sense, but they were an elite commando squad and at their heart they were military. Also, they fought an elite military terrorist orginazation. Over the years, they became more sci-fi, what all with Star Brigade and their ilk. And Cobra... Well, all I'll say is 'Cobra-la' and leave it at that. The toys got goofy, the series decroded, and eventually it died. Later, the toys came back, pure military. Then they got up to Valor vs. Venom, and once more, the series died.
Now, we have Hollywood making a movie. Instead of making a military movie, with terrorists as bad guy, something we can identify with, they have a sci-fi team versus James Bond villain rejects who DESTROY THE EIFFEL TOWER WITH ACID!!! They skipped the good, wholesome military period and went straight to the sci-fi! Don't get me wrong, I love the designs for the movie (Except Cobra Commander), but I just feel that Hollywood has missed what the core idea of G.I. Joe is: the American armed forces, protecting the world from terrorist threats. I think this movie will fail to impress the fans, because it isn't really G.I. Joe; it's generic Mission Impossible with Joe names. The worst part of all this, however, is that the perfect Joe story already exists. "Empire," by Orson Scott Card, is like a love song to all Joe fans: an elite group of American commandos fighting a tough, organised terrorist force. Yes, it has a bit of advanced technology (walkers and hover bikes), but if one imagines the characters as Joes, it is perfect. So, in short, Hollywood did not capture the Joe spirit (of course, we won't know till later), and I don't think it will be well received if it lacks that spirit. I for one am not thrilled by it, and refuse to think of this film as a Joe film. It is a generic action film, nothing more. But I'll still buy the toys P.S. No offense meant to non-American Joe fans. I appreciate you guys, and wish you all the best of luck. |

You know it kind of reminds me of the X-men movies, the uniforms looked nothing like the comic, some of the characters origins and such got changed anditwas predictable. it was okay in its own right but i'm old school i wish they would stick to the real stories and uniforms. Notice similarities in the X-Men movie uniforms to the Rise of the Cobra? Thats Hollywood trying to change our childhood memories of our favorite things. With all that said I can't make a final judgement until I see the film. Have at it ......

Even though we all know the movie is not gonna be a good representation of what we all like about GI Joe.. but deep down, aren't you glad there is finally gonna be a movie?? I am.. & Im actually glad they waited this long... can u imagine how bad the movie would of been if it had came out 10 years ago.. muahahahaha!!!
So we should be glad that instead of getting what would have been a crap movie ten years ago, we're getting what looks like it will be a crap movie now? I'm not seeing a whole lot of upside here. Not to mention that if it had been done ten years ago, we wouldn't have had influences from Image, DDP, Sigma Six.... |

How did this question get started all over again? There can't be this many people saying that the members who disagree with this movie are irrational haters unless the topics covered in this thread haven't been covered a thousand times over.

I think it will be a fun summer action flick. I'm really only going to see it for nostalgic reasons, I don't really care about some of the changes since they aren't rewriting what has already been established with GI Joe. They wanted their own interpretation of GI Joe and that's fine with me, the characters are still recognizable even without unique outfits. The only thing I'm worried about is Cobra Commander, but his new look seems to be gradually growing on me(I hated it at first). We'll see how it turns out, and hey, maybe it will be terrible and bomb and we'll get a reboot in a few years with a better director and cast(that was for the haters).
