I'm a pretty new fan (in spite of being 28, I never got into Joes at all until about a month ago when the sheer quality of the 25th stuff pulled me in) so take my opinions with whatever grain of salt you deem necessary.
That being said, Zartan is my favorite character. So much that I already own 2 of the original 1984 version MIB. And I'm 100% fine with whatever changes they want to make to him. The idea of a guy that cool leading a bunch or semi-retarded bikers doesn't sit right with me, and I'm fine with him working directly for Destro and leaving the Dreadnoks out of it. |

Yeah, I don't see the big deal either. I always thought it odd that he wore the theatrical makeup at all times...or are those eye tattoos designed to make him look like a harlequin ?? Anyway, yeah - master of disguise without the cartoony/comic book villain face is fine by me for a movie character.
surely, if you look close you can see some kind of pink design on his face, but it looks like he's dee snyder from twisted sister. people like to use the "realism" argument for these kinds of un-necessary changes...but it's a movie about genetically altered super soldiers, guys in power ranger suits, and a big bad villain that uses nano technology and wears a plunger on his face.

Yeah, i too am tired of this "realism" crap.
Give me a live action zartan with black face tattoos, a hatred for the sun because his skin turns blue and a hood or hair or whatever he has. his movie is going to eat balls.

the only aspects I've seen the realism argument applied to was in defense to the standard uniforms they all wear. that doesn't mean people prefer it, just that they understand why it is being done. but in no way do I see anyone clinging to a realism argument in defense of the ideas in this movie while they seemingly ignore or aren't aware of the many fantastical aspects of it. they simply are rationalizing the decision while accepting the fantasy elements.

It seems like a fun reimagining to me, but what do I know, I've only seen a few of the 5-part cartoons and read around 30 of the comics.

I think it may be the best Shipwreck yet. I'm not to excited about Zartan though. I guess I want to see what his own outfit will be. Although I will buy some of these Zartans as Cannon Fodder security guards. Why not?
