Y'know... I kinda like the "vow of silence" angle.
It's actually more "hardcore" than getting your vocal chords killed, in my very humble opinion. Because it is a self-imposed thing. It's not that destiny left you mute... you did that to yourself. We're not even talking about becoming mute out of a shock (which could be another way). As for why? ...that's what counts. That's what remains to be seen.

If they are going with the vow angle, its only so he can break it towards the end of the movie for "drama". Lame.

I like the mysterious Snake Eyes because he couldn't talk and because his face was a secret. I think the damaged vocal chords and disfigured face story makes him more of tragic character and makes him more personally interesting. I don't know, but it seems like Snake Eyes is more compelling as a victim of a tragic accident who had no control on who he became vs. a vow of silence (that he can break at any time, btw).

Reminds of Vinnie Jones' character in Gone In 60 seconds and how he talked at the end and everyone thought he couldn't. Worked for that movie but not for Snake Eyes.

the whole vow of silence makes it sound like a steven segal movie! Snake-Eyes must be victimized! Nothing less than a helicopter explosion to the face I say!

the vow of silence thing is crap. the damaged vocal chords story ads so much more to his character..because you know he WANTS to say something but cant, and it just makes him that much more pissed off. if its a vow of silence, then its because he's a moody jerk. "im not gonna say another word! wahhhhh"

Not an unconfirmed rumor actually a direct quote in an interview with dibonaventura. I don't care about all the joe "rumors" untill i actually see the film, But how can the info direct from the directors mouth not be taken seriously. by the way "a vow of silence" that is total garbage and just the kind of screwing with the characters that will ruin any joe movie, mabee they update their look after 20 years fine, mabee they update the characters a bit, but they still are who they are. I mean here is a good example of what works, x-men, spider-man, star wars prequel, why? because when they framed the back story for these films they held true to the characters origins. In the transformers movie, even though they majorly changed the look of the characters, optimus was still a semi that came to earth from cybertron. Now here is where i thought the license with transformers went bad, when they made bumblebee not able to talk. to much license, as with megatron, they strayed to far from the essence of the character. overall i liked transformers, but had optimus not been as dead on as he was i could have as easily hated the whole thing.
