Is this the Joe Retaliation Disapproval thread?????
Then Here I GO!!! Beware of Spoilers!! Roadblock- was Never a ninja, Was Never THE leader,........ just a heavy gunner and sometimes a squad leader (See GI Joe Rise of Cobra's Heavy Duty and you have Roadblock) Flint- Was Never an underdog, Was always sarcastic, and 2nd in command to Duke. This is NOT Flint! Duke-.....(Spoiler)...Duke is never supposed to die!!!! Lady Jaye- Hair is supposed to be a lot shorter, but that wasnt such a bad thing...just her attitude Gen Joe Colton aka GI JOE - no hair....Colton is supposed to look like the Barbie sized GI Joe dolls that dad and my uncles played with.....w/ life-like hair and beard...and a kung fu grip!...not look like Bruce Willis as Bruce Willis Zartan- the president is plying Zartan the whole time...you never see the REAL DEAL. Other things- Destro dies too early; Firefly gets hit by a SUV, gets thrown in the air and over the SUV, and manages to just walk it off?; No General Hawk; No Scarlett; No Marlon Wayans.....(WAIT! no Marlon Wayans is a GREAT thing!) ; Every Joe died w/ the exception of a few? Things they got right!- Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow (Though I still hate the costume), Hisstanks!, COBRA COMMANDER!!!!!! This movie was a "ROCK" Vehicle. Starred the Rock as a 2nd rate GI Joe who was declared a First rated Joe just to sell a movie. The Rock as the Rock as Roadblock. Centered on The Rock. I like ROCK, but I dont like him enough to take over a whole movie franchise...especially one I hold very special and close to my heart. Final Analysis- Reboot, Restart, and Reboot! |

http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...naccurate.html I have zero issue with legitimate criticisms of the film (of which I'll readily admit are plenty). My issues are when people piss and moan about it because it wasn't a slavish recreation of the 80s (like the above thread where it was complained about Flint not wearing a beret...or the post above mine)

My nitpick about flint is a little different than everyone else I see. I agree the character in the movie didn't act like the Flint from the comics or cartoon. I see most everyone saying Flint should have been more like the comic version. I disagree. I just think they should have given him a name of a character whose personality better fit, like perhaps Tunnel Rat. I could see Tunnel Rat being a risk taker like Flint was in the movie.
I had a similar complaint about Ripcord in Rise of Cobra. He was a ground soldier, who wanted to be a fighter pilot. So why did they give him a code name for a paratrooper? And unlike Flint, Ripcord is a very job specific name that does not match the character at all. |

Only the President of the United States knows where this top secret prison is at? Zartan couldn't ask anyone else?
The GIJoes are a joke compared to real special forces. The first sniper shot alerts the North Koreans to their presence. The Joes enter a building doing spray and pray with their guns. Flint is doing parkour. Then they have a kegger before the mission is actually finished. Now you really expect this to resemble even remotely something real world? The op in North Korea would supposedly be a covert op and Flint got away with hoisting the GI Joe flag? It's in there to create a funny moment, that's all. |

I enjoyed the movie, however I noticed a few things.
Too clippy. Reminded me of the new Red Dawn movie, just a bunch of clips spliced together trying to make a movie. I liked Red Dawn too, but it had so much potential. Why even mention Destro if CC was just going to leave him behind? There didn't seem to be any urgency to leave the prison once FF and SS raided it, but they threw in the exploding stuff to move them along and get SS to the mountain retreat so they could have the big epic ninja battle. I suspect there will be some sort of director's cut because the overall film seemed choppy and the credits seemed to show some extended stuff. By the way... where was the helicopter scene of CC heading toward an island? I made my family sit through the credits thinking it was going to be at the very end... but it wasn't. Lame! |

Unless I missed it:
Nobody wore a damn helmet. For all the nitpicks over plot and characters, nobody except Firefly (and only on his bike) or the evil Cobra TRoopers wore a freakin' helment. That right there should have indicated how "realistic" they were willing to roll.

And unlike Flint, Ripcord is a very job specific name that does not match the character at all. As far as Ripcord in ROC, that was actually(IIRC), Rachel Nichols' fault. The script called for a paratrooper and she suggested Marlon Wayans and/or the Ripcord name. From what I remember she didn't actually know about Ripcord from ARAH, to her it was just a character name in the movie. Quote:

For me:
1. The soundtrack really stood out to me and not in a good way. It was generic and it seemed to be missing an overall theme. The worst moments were the dialog scenes - it just stood out too much and didn't meld well. No music at all would have been better during those scenes. It sounded like stock action movie background music to be honest. 2. The editing was all over the place. 3. My other issues are the dialog and tone. I'm not sure if it was the script or the directing, but I just couldn't buy the characters. The dialog was just too lackluster and kiddy-like. It came across as if it was written by a 9 year old.
