"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Origins - Splinter"
They could have literally kept the majority of the casting. Henry Golding - A human Splinter Andrew Koji - A younger Shredder (awesome, perfect casting) Cast all the Asian dudes as Foot Ninja and make the Japanese woman into the sister of Splinter to add to the Shredder conflict. Paramount already have the Turtles license for movies and I feel that Turtles fans would have been cool with a prequel movie that shows this unexplored background. |

That wouldn’t have worked either because Henry Golding isn’t an action actor, he’s a drama/romance actor.

That would be a cool way to kick-off a new live-action TMNT reboot, using the 1990 movie as a template for "how it's done".

Yes, because clearly Paramount had all these actors under contract for whatever movie they wanted to make and simply assigned them Snake Eyes, not that the individual actors signed on to the Snake Eyes project.

With several iterations of Joe post ARAH not taking hold and having the sustaining power that it did, I am starting to believe Joe will never be as popular with a new generation. It peaked with ARAH, has it's strong moments when it dips into the nostalgia pool, drops when it veers away from ARAH, and this is as good as it's going to get.
You can change the scale of the toys, you can make it as different from ARAH as you want (they've tried that too) and it may still not work. The SE movie and Classified are the last two examples. A movie that deviates from it's history, snubbed by the fan base, not particularly loved by kids. Classified seemed to go with different versions of the characters, just enough to be recognizable, but now go with the ARAH look.

You're right. Instead they should have made the same movie but added a 1980s style PSA where the Blind Master explained how fun thought experiments work.

The difference between everything now and everything in the 80s is that in the 80s if something was popular, everyone knew about it and probably watched it. Or listened to it. Music, TV, movies, whatever.
Now, there is nothing as universally consumed. The closest we have is the Marvel movies. So yeah, GI Joe won't ever be as popular as it was, but that's a sign of the times, not of Gijoe. In the 80s, almost everyone I knew had a Michael Jackson record, but if he came out today his popularity would be just as segmented as every other music star right now.

I guess what I'm saying is we can't use 1980s popularity as the bar it has to jump over.
It just has to do well for the 2020s.
