I liked roc when it first came out. It was a fun, action-y movie. Not a great joe movie, but not an awful movie for entertainment.

I will wait for somebody more reputable like Roger Ebert to weigh in on Retaliation. Many people don't like Ebert's reviews but Ebert has been doing this for decades. Those who follow his reviews sort of know what he expects out of a film. You can judge how your own feelings will be about a film by glancing at Ebert's remarks.

Oh, and Ebert has no problem eviscerating a film if it is that bad. He won't pull no punches when it is necessary. Unlike this fellar who reviewed Retaliation which is referenced on this thread.

I even wrote to Ebert requesting he review Retaliation as soon as possible. To hopefully judge the film before opening night so the fans know whether or not it is worth the trouble. Hopefully Ebert can get to the film before the general opening on March 29.

Studios like to keep a film they know is bad under wraps in order to cash in on the opening weekend. They do this in part be keeping film critics out. It is my hope Paramount has faith enough in Retaliation that they can stand a little potential scrutiny from Roger Ebert.

It must be sad, needing some guy you've never met's opinion to tell you how you feel about a movie. Here's a novel concept: Go see the movie yourself, and then decide how you feel about it. Plenty of people like movies that critics tear apart just fine. Plenty of movies that critics adore people find boring and pretentious. Taste is always subjective. Somewhere out there, there's probably someone for whom G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is their favorite movie ever.

And just because someone's done something for a long time and has a famous name doesn't make their opinion any more valid than anyone else's.
