SOME SPOILERS, nothing huge, though, as I don't want any trouble.
I watched the trailer, and it made me excited again for the movie, but I again feel that there is both room for improvement, but it should be pretty fun to watch. One thing I want to say is that the climax feels pretty broken up, what with no less than FOUR flashbacks during the siege of the "bad guy base". SE and SS have a long and dynamic relationship, most of which we are shown during their last fight. The script says at times, a sentence about the action, then a flashback. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't want my climactic ninja fight to be nothing more than a set up of the history that brought them there. Remember my script review? Same thoughts here, about getting answers to questions at the wrong time. Same with the doctor. It feels wrong when we discover who he is, like... "Uhhh... 'Kay?" That said, the action and emotional moments in the Duke V. Destro/Doctor and SE V SS fights reads pretty friggin well. I won't spoil anything, but I laughed at the non-obtrusive comical relief moments and found myself really wanting to see these fights on the big screen. I don hope that Duke's battle with "smart robots" is a little more involved than what we get here, though. RIPCORD ISN'T ANNOYING. Not on paper, anyways. Granted, some of us tankers feel Wayans is a poor choice, but after seeing him in the trailer, if he keeps that attitude, that voice up throughout the film, I'm okay with his involvement, hell, if he does it right, I'll "retroactively" give him my blessing, so to speak. I know, that's cheating, but I guess I just feel better about his involvement now. The Neo-Vipers come off as more threatening, now that I have an image to go along with it. They, of course, have Stormtrooper moments, but they actually feel like they could do some damage here and there. Over all, the bad guys feel like actual threats. Storm Shadow has a huge impact, and a certain villain's schizophrenic-like personality changes at the end are quite disturbing. Destro is a good villain, too, at least in the script. He is every bit the gentleman mastermind he is portrayed as in the comics and cartoons. He has a mean tongue at times, and if Eccleson can deliver, he could steal a decent portion of the show. Zartan has a fairly significant roll, but only as a set up for the future of the series. There is stuff there to expand upon. SE/Scarlett/Ripcord isn't completely resolved to the point that it's a closed book. While I won't give away the ending or anything, but it reminded me a lot of Sunbow, only for adults. Take that for what you will. Having, since read this script originally, gotten much more into the actual figure and toy history of GI Joe, there are a TON of vehicles and other Joe mythos material. Sharcs, Night Raven, the Rock Slide. Some other things are hinted at, but I won't spoil anything else for you there. One thing I also liked is the pacing, actually. Yeah, there aren't as many fights as some expected, but if you count everything up, there's about 4 really important battles/fights/etc. After reading it, I'm still excited, but I remember some of the complaints I and others have had. The script, along with the trailers, does paint a much better picture this time, and I am counting the days untill Joe is released in theaters. Yo Joe. |

if Hasbro keeps pumping out as many figures as we're getting for Rise of Cobra, with some of the quality we're seeing in some of them (Pit Commando, any one?), then I hope this movie is a resounding success. |

I'm glad somebody actually is looking at this openly. I think this is going to be every bit as good as Transformers.
Also keep in mind, that some of the script has been changed in production and post production. A lot of the things people are getting upset about (accelerator suits & Ripcord/Scarlett) aren't even big parts of the movie.

Freedom who said I wasn't actually looking forward to the film!?
I can honestly say that the fan boy half of me wants an A Real American Hero version and the other half is content with just the film the way it is- a live action G.I.Joe. I'm torn, but excited about the film! |
