PS.... Jason Nicholl (Nuke The Fridge) made some interesting comments about Hasbro/Paramount's decision to make serious changes to the trailer after his review was posted. Evidently, they panicked and enhanced the trailer (and possibly the film) because they saw the writing on the wall.
I thought the trailer was awesome, much better than the promo images, script reviews, fanboy rants, et al would leave you to believe. It also has a darker tone than I was expecting, which is good. I just hope it isn't campy, and hope Ripcord's jokes are kept to a bare minimum, if not completely eradicated from the final movie. He seemed alright in the trailer, but his wisecracks will destroy any substance he has as a character in the movie. I hope the scene where Duke and Ripcord's convoy gets attacked is awesome.

Eh, I can admit when I am wrong. As good as the trailer was though I still am not going to see it in the theater. Honestly, I see no good reason to pay $20 for tickets and $15+ for concessions to see this movie when I can wait a few months and spend less than half of that on the DVD that I can watch on my big screen at home.

I don't know. That guy also said he saw fighter jets in the trailer he saw. If those were for example, the transport jet, which Snake Eyes was shown jumping out of, and also in the PIT, why would he call it a fighter jet? It looks nothing like one. At the same time, if the fighter jet was Night Raven, why didn't he recognize it?

I like comic relief as much as anybody, but as someone was posting here or in another thread, John McLane type jokes are a whole lot better than the comic relief we got in TF. We'll just have to wait and see. I wonder if perhaps Ripcord is gonna die or if it will be Breaker. I really think one of them will not make it through the movie. Someone has to die the hero, and the rest (except maybe Heavy Duty) are too integral. Quote:

Yeah it looks a little silly but, come on, anyone who has bought a comic/dvd pack knows damn well this sh!t was always silly. Most of us were so young when ARAH first came out that alot of the silliness and bright colors are what captivated us, got us hooked. It would be impossible to cater this movie to only the older fans, to much realism would push the younger generation away, and in my opinion be just as unfaithful to the old ARAH as anything else anyone is griping about. Hopefully this movie does good so we can all continue collecting, nit-picking, and arguing for another 25yrs.

I don't know if my ticker can take arguing with some folks on here for another 25 years. Hell what am I saying? I'll just pay for one of those portable defibrillator machines so I can keep the pressure on here.

It looked like fun. I'm going in with the lowest of low expectations and certainly won't be making the effort to see a midnight showing like I will be for Transformers. And I don't know why people aren't expecting it to suck since it is based largely on the original cartoon: I've been watching old episodes thanks to the 25th DVD Battle Packs, and holy crap that show was fucking retarded. I can't believe how bad it is! He-Man is my all time fav anything and people give that show shit CONSTANTLY about how lame it was, but Joe was far and away a thousand times worse.

You have all made fair points, and I appreciate your side of the debate as well as Jason's.
I am still in "wait and see" mode. It's only February, and I will admit the Hasbro/Paramount team have six months to tweak this thing. It does fill me with a sense of pride to know that Hasbro/Paramount did in fact listen to the fans when they dropped the Brussels-based "G.I.J.O.E." theme, and have gone for something more acceptable. However, there are still some departures from Marvel comics that are a bit too radical for me to digest. Like I said, I am in the "wait and see" mode. Not gonna post any hatred or hate around here, just a patient "wait and see" theme. |
