Loved it. Every second of it felt like Joe to me. Even the jumping from exploding cars and flips... when I read folks saying "joes never did that!" I always think of the comic that introduced Flint with Tomax and Xamot driving a 4-wheeler (was it the ferret?) around a roller-coaster loop and jumping around/off moving coaster carts... Joes always been almost always about crazy acrobats and xplosions

I was very impressed. I like where the Joe universe is going. It's new but pure GI JOE. I think it's appropriate given we're in 2009 and honestly...when I look at my ARAH stuff now, I just see such a wide array of colors that it feels silly. I love it, but it's silly.Much more so than futuristic special effects and spectacular stunts. How would ARAH Blowtorch ever not get picked off in battle? You can see how the movie's going to mix real military with sci-fi...black doesn't bother me.

Modern military SpecOps teams, in certain situations, wear all black and sport high tech gadgets we don't even know about. The military has done R&D into new forms of armor, strength-augmenting exo-skeletons, and even cloaking devices. All technology designed for the purpose of making troops more efficient with higher survival expectancy.
And you think 'America's Top Secret Special Mission Force' will be denied these goodies?!? "Sorry Duke, you're going into battle with green and khaki fatigues with only an outdated carbine for protection. Be sure to wave a flag in the middle of a firefight, it's sure to demoralize the enemy forces and deter them from aiming at you! YOOOOOO JOE!!!" See folks, this is where the brain comes into play. Give it a shot. |

Actually, the movie looked pretty good; the only problem I have now is some of the cast... and perhaps the dialogue.
Destro: "What did you say your unit is called?" Hawk: "I didn't." *cough* So lame. *cough* LOL. |

I disagree, and by calling people "brainless" for not agreeing with you only further spreads the divide within this Joe community. Cobra Commander wears a monocle and works for Destro as "the doctor?" Baroness and Duke were supposed to get married? Zartan works as Destro's mercenary? Ripcord wants to be Scarlett's lover? Snake Eyes is from France, and Hawk is SAS? Duke is a US Army 1SG who has a goatee? Since when did US Army First Sergeants have goatees? And since when are Army 1SGs as young as Tatum? Most respected Senior NCOs (I define Senior NCOs as E-8 and above) are in their late 30s to early 40s because they are seasoned from years and years of different experiences and assignments. Tatum looks like he just finished AIT, and should be wearing E-3 or E-4 rank (Maybe even E-5 or E-6, but that's a stretch. No way should he be a damn E-8). Also on Duke's goatee: Relaxed hair standards apply to SF operators based on their environments, but a goatee is defined for style, not an operational requirement such as the beards that SF operators sport in Afghanistan. I won't even get into the forced PC changes made to Breaker and Ripcord. Cover Girl is an Aide De Camp for General Hawk? BS. Cover Girl left the interior pampering of the modeling world to get her hands dirty in the motor pool. She is a front-line fighter who commands ADA vehicles, not a damn secretary. What's this stuff I read about her getting killed by Storm Shadow during the film's ending? That's total BS. Glitzy special effects might be what you desire, but a complete and total abandonment of the genuine "GI Joe VS. Cobra" storyline is what makes this movie near impossible for me to digest. I don't look for glitter; I look for substance. **********END OF SPOILERS************************** PS.... Jason Nicholl (www.nukethefridge.com) made some interesting comments about Hasbro/Paramount's decision to make serious changes to the trailer after his review was posted. Evidently, they panicked and enhanced the trailer (and possibly the film) because they saw the writing on the wall. From Jason Nicholl: "This is certainly not the same trailer I saw at a test screening, though several elements are the same. The jumping Joes avoiding a rocket. The Joes jumping through the window of a train. And the green ooze toppling the Eiffel Tower. The rest of the footage is brand new. What is my take? Personally I am glad to see they decided to re-edit it. This is a much better teaser than the one they were testing. The special effects have been cleaned up. It certainly looks action packed. But once again, there are the cheesy / lame elements like the green ooze toppling the Eiffel tower and the twirling Joes that just make me roll my eyes. Like I said in the previous post, it is typical Stephen Sommers to put in these little touches that just pull audiences out of a potentially kick ass movie. "Van Helsing" for one would have been great if not for the cheesy moments. Also, if you are "G.I. Joe" fan like I am, I think from watching this that you will be disappointed. This won't be the kind of "Joe" movie we want. After all, this is not "a real American hero" anymore, but rather some International anti-terrorist unit. But if you are a fan of typical summer blockbusters that are just mindless eye candy, this will probably be a success. Thats my take." It is the private citizens (IE, the bloggers) who are making sure this movie doesn't become the "G.I.J.O.E." disaster that it was originally destined to become. *ADA = Air Defense Artillery Last edited by Bravestarr; 02-04-2009 at 08:40 AM.. |

I thought it looked great, and everyone around me (non - joers) loved it too. It gave my hobby an almost sense of legitimacy in their eyes.

****************SPOILERS***************** I disagree, and by calling people "brainless" for not agreeing with you only further spreads the divide within this Joe community. Cobra Commander wears a monocle and works for Destro as "the doctor?" Baroness and Duke were supposed to get married? Zartan works as Destro's mercenary? Ripcord wants to be Scarlett's lover? Snake Eyes is from France, and Hawk is SAS? I can see your concerns on each of these that you listed above. Let's remember a few things. Some of these are early rumors, potential plotlines. Perhaps many of them will not be included or highlighted in any way in the movie. Let's remember also that you knew there would be some changes. The original Joe mythos would not fly today, i.e. Joe Vietnam vets would be a little long in the tooth to be front line soldiers in the near future. Please also keep in mind that this movie is not Joe vs. Cobra. It is the origins of Cobra (thus the title). Cobra Commander does not even exist until the end of the picture. MARS is the only establishment throughout most of it. Not to mention, Joe is a brand new unit. And, judging from the uniform shown in the preview, Hawk is not SAS. So I'm sure a lot of the plot issues that were first problematic have been resolved or will be. Quote:

I really think the Joe trailer was much more captivating than the TF2 trailer, and TF2 is supposed to be 6 weeks ahead of Joe. And Joe will continue to get better, because of fan input and the progression of the production. When it's done, then we can truly judge it, until then, it's futility. But the trailer certainly gives me optimism, particularly from the reactions of the non-fanboys I've spoken with. Last edited by thunderdan19; 02-04-2009 at 11:38 AM.. |

Honestly, I was blown away from the trailer. The casting still needs work (Ripcoard, Heevy Doody, cover girl) but other than that I'm fully on board with this.

Ok, curiosity got the best of me so I finally watched the trailer. I admit it was much better than I thought it would be. As good as it was though I still have no plans to see it in the theater. I'll just wait for this and TF2 to come out on DVD and watch them from the comfort of my couch. The only movie we plan to see in the theater this Summer is Harry Potter and that's only if it comes to the IMAX.
