If they switch directors again who knows what will happen, however with Chu at the helm he is very into twitter and is always asking questions of his fans be they Beiber fans or GIJOE fans. I can certainly see them asking for more input, Chu especially.

I think a G.I. Joe movie can be more "realistic" in the way similar to Nolan's Batman trilogy. A grounded, more realistic universe with advanced tech and vehicles and just enough sense of fantasy, but not straight-out realistic like "The Hurt Locker" or "Zero Dark Thirty".
Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy might be dark and gritty, but it still has ninja training, outlandish terrorist villains, semi-realistic gadgets and vehicles, and it also still appeal to children and it sells a great amount of toys as well.

I personally want an action film that is fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm looking forward to the ninja action in Retaliation and some banter from the Rock and Bruce Willis.
If I want realism, then there are plenty of good films portraying the true nature of war. I don't really see gritty realism as being appropriate for a toy franchise film. Just my opinion. |
