I disagree that Nolan is a better story teller than Sommers.
TDKR was Nolan's version of a Tale of Two Cities, but a lot of people who liked the movie (at least the ones posting in the thread on this forum) didn't even realize class warfare was a theme in it and the whole plot point was left unresolved. Meanwhile, RoC and the Mummy movies are all easily followed and almost completely resolved at movies end. What's really at work here is the idea that Nolan is a great director has somehow been implanted in our collective consciousness, possibly through inception. |

I don't think people are saying he's a great director, his body of isn't big enough. I like him because (outside of animation,) his given the best interpretion of The Batman.

ROC was certainly more enjoyable than TDKR. I will NEVER watch TDKR again. I'll still plop in ROC occasionally but mainly just as background noise.
TDKR may have had the shadow of class warfare but it really wasn't addressed, was it? Saying the movie is about it is really disingenuous, isn't it? SPOILER. Bane wasn't for class warfare. It was all a smokescreen, and he was just a one-note, evil character. Nothing interesting about him at all. Now, if he was actually interested in bringing about class warfare in Gotham City, I would have found him interesting, and the movie might have been about something. Alas, he wasn't and the neither was the film. |

So the ROC thread became the TDKR bashing thread.

For better or for worse Marlon Wayans was a positive in this film and actually kept it at an average ranking as opposed to a below average ranking. I plan on watching it again in the next few days. It will be my first viewing since the theater. I'm hoping that it's better the 2nd time around.

It's a fun action packed thrill ride from start to finish. |

According to Nolan himself, TDKR was his version of a Tale of Two Cities which was about France's rich aristocracy oppressing the lower class, so if you didn't think the movie was all about that then that only speaks to Nolan's inability to tell a coherent story.
Conversely, RoC is a great movie and very enjoyable. The action is great, the story is easy to follow, the pacing is great. It's a fun action packed thrill ride from start to finish. In Nolan's own words Quote:
"I've had as many conversations with people who have seen the film the other way round. We throw a lot of things against the wall to see if it sticks. We put a lot of interesting questions in the air, but that's simply a backdrop for the story. What we're really trying to do is show the cracks of society, show the conflicts that somebody would try to wedge open. We're going to get wildly different interpretations of what the film is supporting and not supporting, but it's not doing any of those things. It's just telling a story. If you're saying, 'Have you made a film that's supposed to be criticizing the Occupy Wall Street movement?' – well, obviously, that's not true... If the populist movement is manipulated by somebody who is evil, that surely is a criticism of the evil person. You could also say the conditions the evil person is exploiting are problematic and should be addressed... I've got all sorts of opinions, but this isn't what we're doing here," he explained. "I love when people get interested in the politics of it, when they see something in it that moves them in some way. But I'm not being disingenuous when I say that we write from a place of 'What's the worst thing our villain Bane can do? What are we most afraid of?' He's going to come in and turn our world upside down. That has happened to other societies throughout history, many times, so why not here? Why not Gotham? We want something that moves people and gets under the skin."
