Ok.... sorry, but I just have to vent.
WARNING: Lots of caps lock rage. So yeah, I'm sure that most everyone here on the Tank is aware that the GI Joe Retaliation movie release has been pushed to MARCH OF NEXT YEAR!?! Yes, almost a WHOLE YEAR! I'm pissed off about this to say the least. Seriously, were the preview screenings THAT BAD? Or, is it just so they can release the movie in 3D? I NEVER EVEN LIKED WATCHING MOVIES IN 3D IN THE FIRST PLACE!! So, in short, I just find this to be a major kick to the... face, brought to you by Paramount Pictures. *sigh* Ok, now that it's off my chest, feel free to discuss. I don't think it was really THAT bad, to necessitate such a stunt. Besides, I have seen some truly awful films released. The marketing is rolling, and people are probably more interested now than they will be later. Opening weekend, if everyone went and hated it, the money would still have been made, you know? I think there are other factors at work, namely that Battleship bombed badly (it was a BAD, DUMB movie, too), as it had some very strong competition. Without Avengers, Battleship may have done decent business, even if it sucked. This summer has several potentially BIG films coming out, and finding a good spot to open a "lesser" film is like navigating a minefield. I doubt the change to 3D has much to do with the reasoning for moving Retaliation, though no doubt they think it is important... the tickets for a 3D film cost more, for example. But 3D or not, Avengers still would have kicked the ass of Battleship! 3D is not THAT big a factor, if any. I think the studio simply lacks faith in GI Joe now. Strangely, they moved it from August to June as if they thought it could be more of a Summer contender, but now after seeing Battleship fail, they had second thoughts about Joe's chances. What if Spider-Man is as strong as Avengers? (Won't be, but studios worry like this.) Joe would be crushed. Personally, I think GI Joe had a chance to make decent money. People I know who don't even follow Joe stuff thought the trailer looked good, and everyone seems to think it looks better than the first. We may never know now, especially if it gets a lot of re-shoots before 2013. It could be a very different movie, and not necessarily better, just more "mainstream." |

Its not going to be a huge blockbuster, it never was intended to be like Avengers and all of this other competition movies coming out they are so worried with...battleship failed because well..its battleship...a board game brought to life...that was destined to fail the day it was decided a live action movie needed to be done in such fashion...especially on the heels of transformers...Joe will make its money back at best like ROC did...Joe dosent have a fan base as big as Avenegers/MU, Batman, Spiderman and Transfoemrs+Star Wars so it will always be low on the chart of best movies of the summer as a result...I dunno why they think differenlty...it is NOT the revelutionary looking to be honest...at best it will just be another "popcorn" movie like everyone wants...I am sure there are plenty of other movies coming out next year around the time Joe does that will be better or what not...so what will their excuse be next year? Oh god little oprhanie annie 2 ic oming out DELAY joe again...? We need to make it 4d with smellovision! yeah that will bring the crowds in!

On the bright side, it won't be a rush job for the 3D like a lot of movies suffer from. And there's a chance that the movie could actually be better, depending on the new stuff they shoot for it. If there's any talk of a third studio between now and next March from Paramount, then we won't have to worry that they think it's horrible, they're just trying to make the most they can from it.

The problem herein lies with Battleship. Not the fact that it tanked...or still is, but who the hell greenlit something like that? Who first of all pitched a movie about a board game and then who actually said, "Yeah, lets do this"? And, to top it all off...who the hell figured to put it in a spot with what was obviously...because damn sure everyone but Paramount and Hasbro knew...that the Avengers was going to be real big? No one knew it was going to be as big as it was, but fans had been clamoring for it since the scene after the credits of Iron Man. Oh yeah, Rhianna in the Navy was a winner too.
If Retaliation stinks to high heaven and can't even make it through a March release next year then a reboot is definitely something that needs to be considered and maybe getting another studio behind it. Because someone is in the business of bad decisions. Last edited by Bushmaster72; 05-27-2012 at 04:00 AM.. |

The trailers looked retarded! I'm a Joe fan & even I was rolling my eyes at the cheese. I wanted to like them, I tried top like them but they were just so horrible I couldn't. My cholesterol is a little high? That wasn't funny at all, it was gay! Last edited by Steelgrave; 05-27-2012 at 04:11 AM.. |

Here we go again. The only thing anybody has to say about the movie. A movie based on a ride at Disneyland is perfectly ok but God forbid they make a movie based on a board game. A lot of people really need to pull their heads out of their asses. |

Theres no way a film wraps, gets screened, then delayed, and after all that THEN calls back actors and production for 9 months of rewrites and reshoots unless the potential hit franchise movie is terrible.
Im upset, too, guys. Dont get me wrong, but be happy for the delay and be happier paramount doesnt want to embarass the brand further. It sucks to wait, but i think we prefer that to something WORSE than roc...

Because the whole Disney ride had more story and appeal to it than a game where you call out a number and put a plastic peg into a ship.
