As soon as I asked myself this question, I happened to see this article on Yahoo.

Part of it might have to do with how much more some films make overseas than here.
Like apparently John Carter is hot in China but obviously flopped here.

Well the article answered your question. US Box office is in decline, overseas market is doing better.
It might have to do with looser copyright laws aboard as well. If they get the movie first, they won't have as much of a chance to download it illegally before it's in theaters.

And the article did answer my question. So it does make more sense to show the movies to where they have shown to make the most money.

Like the author says, the money's overseas. Americans are learning to adjust their spending habits-- cut back on non-necessities. And I think they know we're a little skeptical after Rise of Cobra.
I like this author's typos. Most anticipated films: Snow What and the Huntsman. Ha! Also, I echo some of the comments there. . .I don't go to movies EVER because I'd rather wait and watch something at home. I can get a DVD of it after awhile for under $10 and watch it when I please. After you buy tickets, snacks, a babysitter, and gas to get to the theater, that's like a days' pay at least. Not worth it. I'll keep (most of) my money. I need it more than they do. That and GI Joe isn't "A Real American Hero" anymore. |

Reason is simple. Economics. Money.
Hasblo is banking on the foreign markets to make this movie float. I guess they figure the USA isn't their bread and butter any longer. Big insult if I may say so myself.

Big insult to whom? Is the US insulting Hasbro and the movie industry by not buying as much or more than the people overseas? Or are you saying that Hasbro and the movie industry is insulting the US by catering to the markets that make the most money?

Not everything is about the US alright? That's it. International market is better. Plus, they are trying to do stuff that has never been done before. Besides, it looks like Storm Shadow is a presence in the movie, and that Lee byung Hun made a great effort.
