the last line is my favorite bit...
http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=13&cs=1 From the Variety article; "Paramount, on the other hand, threw four pricey A-list scribes at would-be $100-million franchise "G.I. Joe," which is scheduled to start shooting in February, and swears that the move paid off. Stuart Beattie ("3:10 to Yuma"), John Lee Hancock ("A Perfect World") and Brian Koppleman and David Levien ("Ocean's Thirteen") teamed up in an intense collaboration that yielded, according to di Bonaventura, a shootable script. But will the studio be willing to take a chance on shooting such an important, costly tentpole? The studio insists it will, partly because it isn't chasing big-name stars." |

I think the idea of using unknown actors for the Joe film isn't such a horrible idea. I just hope and pray the script is good.

Waitaminit!! They're actually making a Terminator 4!?
So, I've been giving this writer's strike some thought concerning the GI Joe movie. Now it would be a shame if because of the writer's strike, the movie bombed and it hurt the toy line. The question is, would it hurt the toyline more if there was a bad movie associated with it (Ala: Street Fighter) or would it be worse if there was no movie at all? Basically seeing what all the writer's strike can do to movies being made got me to thinking maybe they should hold off on making the Joe movie at all until the time is right for it. For example, let's say a bit of the script is leaked to get fan reaction and the fan reaction is very bad. Now beacuse of the writer's strike, they can drop that part, but they can't change it, or add something better to replace it. Mind you this is all worst case scenario. I got worried hearing di Bonaventura say they had "a shootable script", I woulda felt better if he said we have a great script, but as far as I know they could have the best script possible and the movie will rock! |

lets just also hope that the people in charge of making the movie don't let their egos get in the way and they change the G.I.JOE we all know and love to put their own unique personal touch on it...
is it just me, or does everyone else wanna see the cartoon, only with real live people, no deviation?...aside from maybe dialogue |

Yeah, as fun as the cartoon was/is, it's kind of lame too. I still enjoy watching them from time to time, but I don't want my movie to be as corny as the cartoon could be at times. I want a modern day version of the Marvel Comic's version of G.I.JOE.

WOW!...i had no idea ya'll felt this way...i am genuinely surprised...
i grew up on the cartoons, and still to this day have never read one JOE comic...not because i am anti comic or anything, i just never got into comics at all...i would assume they are sweet...i know the art is leaps and bounds ahead of the T.V. version, i guess the stories must also be... the toons and toys are really all i know...and like i said, thats what i want to see on the big screen, albeit a bit more grown up....so are the comics so much different from the toons to justify this "ee-gads" response?... i guess now i'm left wondering if i am the only one who liked the cartoon... |

the core concept of G.I. Joe is identical in the comic and cartoon -- Joe vs Cobra, and that is what I expect the movie to be about. the cartoon was more cartoonish and aimed at young children. the comic was more of a serial and aimed at adolescents. neither were brilliant pieces of art and both had as many redeeming qualities as they had sheer awful elements, and the movie would be remiss to ignore one over the other as gospel as to what should be in the movie -- both have defining elements that audiences recall as to what G.I. Joe is, and neither one is more G.I. Joe than the other.
Was Cobra La awful? yes. but not any worse than every character having their history intertwined with Snake Eyes which has precipitated the conflict. |
