I dont want to see a parachute open every time someone gets shot down!
I do however think that alot of people link GIjoe with the cartoons of the 80's and were never aware of the darker comic book side. It could be somewhat shocking to some seeing Major Bludd gunning for Destro in the movie or an assasination attempt on CC. I personally want it dark and violent. I think every kid who wanted to see Batman still probably did and loved it even though it was far from the daily after school show. |

I'd like to see a nice mixture of both Toon and Comic. Other than one or two of the comics I really never read them until the Comic Packs came out a couple of years ago. I did notice they were darker, I was pleasantly surprised to read Baroness saying something about turning a doctor's face into a fine mist of blood in the first comic!
That being said, I wouldn't want the movie to be a gloom and doom, hence why a mixture of both would be cool in my book |

Heres a good question:
What rating should the movie get? I would prefer a R rating but I highly doubt it will happen. What do you guys want and expect? |

I expect PG-13. I expect it so well I'd even bet on it.
They want the movie to draw an age range from kids to adults. PG-13 is the way to go. PG will kill it. So will R.

What do you guys want and expect? you can have violence and even death without an R rating, and going to the extreme it would take to get there is not what G.I. Joe is about. sure, in the comic people died, but it wasn't any more violent than PG movie violence, even with the deaths, and it definitely wasn't "dark" as I see many of you are describing it as. not being as silly as the cartoon or approaching the subject with more of an attempt at realism does not make the comic dark. even with the deaths, the comic was pretty fluffly. |

With the movie tied to the toyline, a R-rating won't happen. You rarely see a movie toyline with a R-rating, coming from the major companies(Hasbro, Mattel...). That's left to the other guys McFarlane, NECA, SideShow...

Dark being that people actually die in it. When compared to the gay ass cartoon it was dark in my opinion. Not saying the cartoon was bad for kids it just didnt have the more realistic substance. I know what you are saying though it is nothing by today's standards.

I'd say PG-13 but just make it real, no need for the language or violence to be other the top but realistic. I agree about the cartoon being too far fetched with the realistic substance (haven't read much of the comics, can't opinion there.. and may be the only one) so it'd be nice to see how well they can mesh the fiction with reality. Bottom line, do the line some justice, maybe a Transformers with improvement towards the characters..... since there won't be much CGI that shouldn't be an issue, focus on the acting, we should be in good shape. As for unknown actors, that can't be all that bad... gets fresh new faces into the scene and we won't be able to pick apart them too much based on previous work.
I'm excited, either way, regardless if the movie does or doesn't look like it's a good one.. I'll still be there opening day to give it a look see and judge from there. Personally, i'll try not to hype it as much as i did Transformers and be somewhat disappointed. |

thanks for the clarification guys between the comics and the toons…I guess, as it turns out, is that what I am hoping for with this movie is kinda what the comics were - a bit (a lot?) more realistic than the cartoon...also, when I said that I want the movie to be like the toon, I meant, really, that I want to be able to undoubtedly recognize each and every character, ya know, still resemble their cartoon/comic counterpart...I'm afraid the end "realistic" result will be to put everyone in the same basic military-esque uniform for realism...I'm so damn afraid that Hollywood is gonna put their own twist on it, ala movie Megatron=what the hell?!...
as far as a rating, PG-13…I think hearing CC yell "F'ING COOOBRAAAAA" while blowing a round thru Dukes eye and brains shooting out of the back of his head will make me squirt coke out of my nose...definitely no need for an R...if anything, with the JOE I know, making it too dark would make it just as unrealistic as making it too much like the cartoon... |
