I think Sean Bean, aside from being pretty decent at playing sketchy, emotionally vague badasses, has the sort of morose qualities Zartan can use.
He's one of my favorite actors, so it's hard for me to think of a better actor for one of my favorite characters. While we're at it, I'd say might as well make his Lord of the Rings co-star Orlando Bloom portray Zandar. |

Ok,
First off I'm seeing people call out Gary Oldman as Zartan....uh no. Gary Oldman is and needs to be Cobra Commander period. I have been telling my friends this for years. In fact the character played by Gary Oldman in "The Specialist" is to me the PERFECT Cobra Comander. Nuts yet dangerous. Dark yet wild. This was my actor choice from day 1. Heres a cool pic of Gary of how I see him as Ol' Snakes. http://missprissy.altervista.org/_al...iriusthumb.jpg Now, onto Zartan. I have also had 1 actor in mind for this part since the day I thought about seeing a real live GI Joe movie come to life. For me, there is only 1 person slimey enough. Big enough, Dark enough to wear the hood and be able to have makeup on his face and still look like he would kill you and your family to get information. Mickey Rourke hands down http://eur.i1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/...3048092484.jpg Follow that link to see what I mean. Look at this! hey look! It's Zartan! http://extracine.com/wp-content/uplo.../09/rourke.JPG =COBRACOFFEE Last edited by CobraCoffee; 11-09-2007 at 07:18 PM.. |

I gotta tell you. The idea of having all these stars can only hurt the movie. I think the Cobra team needs to be all stars and The GI Joe team needs to be 1 sorta known actor and then nobodies.
Thats what will make this movie work. But they won't listen. It's to big of a franchise to actually make a good movie here. Here is a post off of a game site I play on that I was talking about the GI Joe movie and my ideas back when I heard Marky Mark was gonna be Duke.... ----------------------------- Well, Im 34. I loved GI JOE toys when I was a kid.The 3 3/4 guys. "Real American hero" Series. Always hoped a movie for this toy line would come out but was scared. Could they do it right...? would they ***k it up? would they make the right character choices...? well. Its tuff to say what would work and what wouldnt. BUT ANYWAY I always thought a darker , grainy, "The Rock" "PayBack" "Get Carter" look to it would have worked. And as far as looks go for Characters, I had already picked out people. (this will only apply if your of my generation btw) Gary Oldman = Cobra Commander: Great twisted look to this guy, smart yet devious looking, the perfect faceand attitude put behind the chrome mask.Deadly, no humor involved.Bill Gates type guy goes nuts. Howie Long= Duke. I wanted this for the look of Howie, but he sucks as an actor.Anyway,it could have worked if you "gruffed" up Howie and made him Silent but brilliant.Would have been a huge acting jump for him but anyway, in my movie COBRA is the star, so huge budget names arnt important on the GI JOE side.Drunk, burnt out, ready to run a rag tag group of soldiers that will fight a "unseen" force.Think "bruce willis" in Last Boyscout. That attitude. If you remember the media never believed there was a COBRA, they always thought it was a ploy by the military to get funds to make new weapons and not have to justify it. Yes, I know Howie is a risk, but so was John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, and look now! I wanna use an actor that no one expects. Mickey Rourke=Zartan , please, look at him and tell me this guy is the perfect actor for this part.Dark, evil, dark, evil, dark, evil. I also wanted this movie to be directed in a dark gritty form. Sure it would never happen cause Hollywood like big budget 100,000,000,000 dollar films but.anyway. I think the choice of actor that the Producer chose may work, its a different direction then going against the Grain like I wanted to do with actors that would suprise.I always think of "street fighter" with VanDam, big actor verse Big actor never seems to work, yoiu need an unknown against a major player, so you almost root for the "no-name" acotr as if your rooting for the underdog hero. They chose Mark Wahlburg as Duke...Im sad |

I'm going to say Thomas Jane. I know he's not on the list, but for some reason I think he's got what it takes to do a really commanding & badass Zartan (he has the Punisher and is in the new Stephen King 'The Mist' movie).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jane He's not "too" big an actor yet. You know, he's probably a good fit for alot of the 'Joe & Cobra characters actually. (And Michael Wincott is a good choice, Destro. I had to Google him, but he looks convincing IMO. I was thinking two guys who would be good Destros would be 1.) Jason Stathem or (2.) Vinnie Jones) -Peter |

Someone mentioned Christopher Lambert, Thomas Jane reminds me of a young Lambert he would work. Im still thinking Dominic Purcell from Prison Break. Zartan had a accent of sorts , Pucrell is Australian .
