So, for pretty much the last 15-20 years, we've had a pretty consistent "core cast" for the Joe team. Generally it's been Duke, Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, Tunnel Rat, and Heavy Duty (sometimes interchanged for Roadblock) in the primary roles.
With RoC, we saw (modernized/black) Ripcord start to hover on the fringes of this status (though they tried to throw us a curveball with Renegades). Now with Retaliation, it looks like Duke and Scarlett are falling by the wayside, at least for the film, and Flint and Lady Jaye are getting beefed up (after having been arguably returned to prominence by Renegades). Do you think Hasbro might "retire" Duke, Scarlett, and Heavy Duty for a while in favor of Flint, Lady Jaye, and Roadblock (even after Retaliation has come and gone)? Can we imagine a world where Duke only gets about as many figure releases as Flint received in the last 15 years? Is this the end of Scarlett/Snake-Eyes and the beginning of Snake-Eyes/Jinx OTP? (They did hint Jinx might have a crush on SE during Renegades). Personally I think it would be an interesting switch-up and a somewhat natural pairing. Will Roadblock be the "poster boy" for G.I. Joe moving forward (alongside Snake-Eyes, as usual?) Will General Colton replace Hawk for the forseeable future? What would you all think if these kinds of changes were made? I wouldn't see it being that bad of change... Kinda change things up a little bit.

For me, the starting line-up will ALWAYS be based on Sunbow season one. Trailer rocks though.

Duke - no change, still major core
Snake Eyes - no change, still major core Cobra Commander - no change, still major core Destro - never was TOO big, falling back now Storm Shadow - no change, still major core Roadblock/Heavy Duty - swap names and still the same idea Ripcord - falling back to supporting role (can we get a white figure now?) Scarlett - we'll see. She never was that big anyway Flint - probably a bit more now but not huge I don't expect LJ - probably a bit more now but not huge I don't expect Honestly to me, its not really much of a change. The ones they're swapping were really the b-list characters anyway. |

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if Duke took a backseat to other characters for a while.

I don't think so. RoC got the casting wrong and this is how they had to fix it. I'm pretty sure outside the movie-verse Duke will remain the top dog.

Interesting points. In my opinion, Tunnel Rat and Heavy Duty have always been secondary figures, while Duke, Scarlet and Snake Eyes have been Joes since the first cartoon. And Duke and Roadblock were introduced at the same time in the Marvel comic. I'd be OK with Duke taking a backseat for a while, but I can't believe they would kill him off (even if it's implied). I just can't see that happening. I guess that would be one way to avoid having lots of movie Duke figures warming the pegs next Christmas. I am glad to see some new movie characters like Roadblock, Lady Jaye, Flint and Jinx take the lead.

If this film is a huge hit, I can see Flint, Lady Jaye, Roadblock and Jinx getting a bit more love in toys and perhaps whatever animated series may pop up later on. Joe Colton may even play a larger role in future plans.
We'll always get Dukes. If his role in this film ends up being a minor one, I can see his later appearances being toned down if Flint and Colton also become faces of the brand. |

So instead of getting 9 versions of Duke for this film theyll put more focus on other characters? sure why not.. I got plenty of dukes I can go a couple years not having to buy another. Although I hope they dont kill him off

I wouldnt mind them replacing Duke and Scarlett with Flint and Lady Jaye, i have always preferred the latter two.
Snake Eyes/Jinx relationship might be interesting. General Colton replacing Hawk, they did that in the DDP comics, when Hawk was crippled.
