Why are we comparing Expendables to GI Joe anyway??? What the hell does Expendables have to do with it? I haven't even seen Expendables yet. |

We're comparing the Expendables because its' cast mirrors the general age range of the people you want cast in the lead roles of a G.I. Joe movie.
BTW: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen came out the same year as RoC. You'd need one hell of a time machine to make G.I. Joe 2 come out the same time as a movie that premiered a month before G.I. Joe 1. Last edited by Jmacq1; 06-29-2011 at 11:05 AM.. |

At one point, Sam Worthington was rumored to be cast as Duke but they lost him when he signed on to play Marcus in Terminator: Salvation.

Duke should be the dude from Battle of LA. The main guy...forget his name.

No, we established that if you were going by filecards they should be older. RoC didn't go by filecards. They made Duke an officer (A Captain, a rank someone of Tatum's age could very easily have achieved, and is not "straight out of boot camp"), because someone in the chain realized that Duke's as-originated rank did not gel with the way he was presented in an overall leadership role (one of the changes they made that made the most sense). Even if they were replacing Tatum, with this film NOT being a complete reboot, it makes no sense to cast someone as old as Lang because Duke should still be closer to the younger Duke of the first movie.
If they were actually making the GI Joe movie I would want, I would like to see someone like that guy from Avatar play Duke, but they are looking for a leading man type of guy to play Duke, so that's kind of a pipe dream. I do wish they would have gotten a better actor then Tatum though. I haven't seen any other movie he's been in, so maybe he does better work when he's given a better script. |

I think we all agree Worthington would have been a much better choice. |

More accurately, they never had him (though yes, it was heavily rumored that they tried to get him). However as I recall it wasn't because of Terminator: Salvation, it was because he was already committed to be working on Avatar at the same time Joe was set to be filming.
I think we all agree Worthington would have been a much better choice.

Too old? Are you serious? He's 41 which would be the perfect age for Duke. Robert Downy Jr is 46 and he is still playing action rolls with Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. How old do you think he should be?
