I'd say an r-rated snake eyes movie bringing storm shadow back to the joe team, or the snake-eyes/firefly cobra island story where he takes on the red ninja clan, brainwashed slice and dice.

I grew up with all those "R-rated" action movies in the 80's (although they were '18 certificate' to me) and loved 'em all - Red Heat, Raw Deal, The Exterminator... they're just so afraid to make movies like that now.
Having said that, I don't think slow-mo blood gushing squib hits would be right for Joe. I'm sure people will die in the movie, but I expect it to be 'clean'. Although Sommer's 'The Mummy' had some grisly deaths, they were still strangely clinical. |

I don't see why this is a question. Who cares what it's rated? The problem with movies (and has been for years) is they're all too formulaic. Instead of wanting to see something that's already been done to death, ad nauseum, why aren't there more directors and studios who are willing to go out of their way to make movie- goers squirm?
Well, we all know why - those movies don't make millions. But anybody who has seen, and can appreciate, movies like Pan's Labyrinth, Children Of Men, 28 Days Later and Band Of Brothers, or even classics like Blade Runner, The Birds, Night Of The Living Dead or King Kong, can appreciate a movie that doesn't just shock you with loud, in-your-face gruesomeness, or play with your emotions by having the musical score swell at the right moment, when there are far more subtle ways to get into someone's head and unsettle them - or make them think. Cartoon-ish violence can be interesting, if dealt with in an interesting way. Like Sin City. Violent, but the way it was dealt out was in such a new and refreshing way that you were more concerned with how it was being done, as opposed to that it was being done. Blockbuster box office generic violence really disinterest me. Having been in the military and gone to Iraq, and even before I did all of that, realistic violence in a realistic military movie was (and still is) an extremely important thing to me. For God's sake - when a grenade explodes, it doesn't do so in a great big fireball!! It kicks up some dirt and throws some sparks around, but that's it. Bullets don't send people flying through the air backwards. And although they can, the odds are against them igniting a car's gas tank. Bullets are typically lead. Fuel tanks are made of an equally non-sparking metal. It was debunked on Mythbusters - but I still see it in new movies. And as for sex - if that's what you want to see in a movie, go rent or download porn. A movie typically has 2 hours to tell a story, and I don't need any romance of "love-making" thrown into it. Gratuitous nudity? No thanks. There's a whole world wide web of it out there, when I'm in the mood. If I'm spending $8, or whatever the hell the price of a movie costs these days, I want to be intrigued, entertained and provoked. God - I know this movie is going to be a huge disappointment. Although I was pleasantly surprised by the Transformers movie. If only they'd have left out the whole romantic subplot. Save it for the ladies - or the ones who like that stuff. My girlfriend specifically avoids all movies with romance in them. |

An R-Rated GI Joe flick? Oh I'd be all over that, but I'd be satisfied with a "hard" PG-13. "Casino Royale" and "Live Free or Die Hard", showed you can have some hard-hitting action, and not have the R-rating.

An R-rating will prevent a movie from making as much money in the box office - that's why there aren't as many nowadays.
