But DOOM wasn't bad because it wasn't like the game. It was just.... bad.

I am keeping a wait and see attitude about the movie. We all know it will not be an oscar nominated film. We also know Hollywood has a way of taking your favorite icons and twisting them for mass consumtion. I would say your best voice is your money. If you don't like something don't support it.

I am going to hold off my opinion until after I see the movie. like with Singer's Xmen, there are things that I am not crazy about, but I think that there has to be some give and take in order to get the movie made. Over all the Xmen movies were okay, they weren't the same as the comics, but the whole spandex thing would have looked wierd in real life.
Based on what I have seen so far I am cautiously optimistic about the film, but I need to see the film as a whole before I make any judgements. |

I will go see the movie. I don't pay attention to any of the information leaked or otherwise. With what I have seen or read on this board (the only place I've seen any onfo on it), I doubt I'll be impressed by it.
The problem is that this is, yet again, another botch job by Hollywood that takes a title from a successful tv show, book or whatever, and uses the title, but retains little else from the original concept. I recently reread G.I. Joe issue 1 from Marvel comics. Now, the cartoon was ridiculous. I like it for nostalgic value, but it was basically a 1/2 hour commercial for the toy line. The comic line, however, was usually pretty great. Issue 1 could have been turned into a movie, with a little bit of imagination, and some back stories as to how the Joe team was developed, and how Cobra formed. I'd even like if it took place within the original 1982 timeline. Something better suited to the original Joe team would have been better regardless. It won't exceed our expectations, despite what it does in the box office. The only plus, that I can see, is that the toy line will be out in force everywhere. So, I need to start putting away money. |
