I think the key about ARAH was that it created the characters in a way I don't belive the original 12 inch toy did. When a kid got a G.I.Joe in the 80s, he wasn't just getting a guy in a particular outfit with a particular weapons - he was buying the mystical, mute, utterly badass ninja Snake Eyes, or whatever. It's exactly the same with Transformers. OP isn't just a robot that turns into a truck, he's an inspiring leader who declares that "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings". And being tied to a comic and a cartoon really made those Joes come a live in a way they never would have for us if we had only had the action figures and the filecards. So yes, ARAH is really its own thing.
But I don't expect the person on the street to get that, any more than I expect the average music fan to instinctively understand that while Born to Run may be Bruce Springsteen's greatest ever rock n roll album, he really doesn't become Bruce Springsteen as we know him today, until 3 years later when he starts singing about people losing their jobs and getting heartbroken on Darkness on the Edge of Town. In the real world, where most people don't even know who Snake Eyes or Destro are, G.I.Joe is G.I.Joe. |

Yea it should be seperate, it did after all revolutionize the action figure industry and ate up a big whole left by Starwars not making stuff. I guess they just lumped the big guys with the 3 3/4 guys and called it quits. If that wasnt the case, then they suck

Still failing to see how 3.75"/ARAH "revolutionized" anything. As Shogi pointed out a few pages back, they did very little that other lines hadn't already done or weren't already doing in the same timeframe. They may have arguably done it "better" or made it more mainstream, but that's not really "revolutionizing" anything. Particularly when its' biggest competitors during its' peak years were entirely different toys (Transformers and Masters of the Universe). If they were "revolutionary" all the action figure brands would have been emulating them. Not just the Corps! If anything, they were just widening and lengthening the road that Star Wars had already started paving (and other toys even before that, like the aforementioned Micronauts).

Then forget revolutionized - GI Joe:ARAH was just plain awesome. And should have got it's own spot.
(I should note here that my "indignation" isn't real and true indignation. I don't actually care all that much )

I guess making the figures have neck, elbow, waist and knee articulation was now revolutionary. Star Wars of that time were straight armed and legged and for that matter so was MOTU. Transformers were new and granted a great line. A new and inventive toy here in the States. So I guess your opinion is your opinion, and I respect that.
