Any word if there are plans to release the original cartoon episodes on DVD again...

Not that I've heard, but it's early days yet. If someone doesn't take advantage of the movie's release to reissue the series on disc then they're not very good businessmen!
Personally I hope that even the DIC series comes out in the pre-movie flurry of promotion, as it's something I've wanted to see in it's entirity for years.

The rest of the series (it ran for two seasons) on the other hand is said to be a bit weak. I've only seen four episodes so don't consider that a big enough sample to form an opinion, but I've always wanted to find out for myself.

My suspicion has been that sony has found it more lucrative to wait & put the Joe and Transformers cartoons out on blu ray. Seeing as sony also makes the hardware, It would only follow that they will take any opprotunity to push the new format on us.
I hope thy put the DIC epesodes out in the eventuallity too. I've been watching clips on youtube. Wile, yes, it is mostly awful. But the show did retain Sarge & Chriss Latta as Cobra Commander. That makes even the worst episodes worth watching. It would be awesome if they include Sarge's original live action episode intros. |
