I could be wrong but I think my first time was when me my brother and grandmother went x mas shopping and she bought us both serpentor. I am end up losing him in one of the joe boats in a deep local swimming hole. I seam to remember trying to see him after going under the water yet the water was too dark and to green:(

I was 7 or 8 in a Foleys a dept store in Texas in 1985 and me and my brother went to the toy aisle and there was a wall of G.I joes ( not like today )I picked up my first figure Flint, and my brother picked up Snow Serpent. That day will always be remembered.

Zap... (i think) what i really remember was busting his thumb off trying to have him hold a gun.... If you put the gun in his hand and twisted it just right... he would hold it straight... twist it wrong though... cracked thumb followed shortly by missing thumb

I think the worst, more for my parents than me, was having the original figures, then they re-released with the swivel arm battle grip. You had to have the newer, better versions, thank god I was only child for so many years.

Okay, I give, how do you start a thread? I was thinking, when you saw your first Joe Cartoon? WGN after school, came home to see something, and instead, there was the MASS Device mini series. Wow, five great days, then the next week, back to regular stuff, where was GI JOE, watched every day for weeks to find new stuff, so cruel when you are a kid.

I was 10 and wandering the toy section at Gemco while my mom was doing the groceries (those were happier times). I was still into Star Wars, but my cousin and I had recently discovered the joys of little plastic army men. We would spend hours setting them all up and having massive wars. When I first spotted GI Joe figures my first thought was "Star Wars sized plastic army men!" Of course I went to my mom and asked her to buy me some. I was allowed to pick two, so that day I brought home Rock n Roll, and Flash. I was hooked, and not long afterwards, so was my cousin. Between the two of us we had almost all the original 1982 Joes (neither of us ever got the MOBAT with Steeler but we had everything else). Then, about a year later my cousin decided he was too old for toys (he was 14 so what did he know?) and gave me all of his figures. I continued to collect figures until 1987 when Joe first started getting a little weird, and my interest began to wane.
