Love the idea, but would like to see more than the high ranking officers represented. It would be awesome to see the different colored berets for airborne, rangers, special forces etc. I'm all in. This is the first idea I've been completely on board with in a while.

THAT would be awesome. Would be great for using in ops when the Joes go undercover, and civy outfits coudl also be great for creating non combatants (hostages, innocent bystanders, refugees, etc).
We'd also get to see what individual Joes wear for their street clothes. I remember when I was in the Norwegian Army, the first day we all got to wear civies for a weekend it was so interesting seeing what everyone's personal dress style was. You've got to figure that some of the toughest, most badass Joes probably have terrible dress sense, LOL! |

I suppose the real challenge would be selling these to kids. Boy's don't want to play with civilian toys unless there is some kind of action going on (see LEGO). Perhaps the best way to present it would be to focus on the character in civilian outfits that could potentially sell to kids. So you have a surfer (Rock n Roll), a punk rocker chick (Zarana), a construction worker (Tollbooth), fireman (BBQ). If that sells well enough, you could venture into say a chef (Roadblock), a pair of corporate businessmen (Tomax/Xamot), a "sexy librarian" type (Baroness), etc.
Fans could buy a bunch of these, and then mix and match legs and torsos, and heads, etc and come up with a small but serviceable collection of civilians. |

I wouldn't mind seeing a 5 or 7 pack of Joes in civies, but give them removable body armor, so you can use them as a Federal Task Force as well. Give them a blacked out Suburban with side rails and a weapons rack in the back. Although, Hasbro would put a pop-up spring-loaded missile launcher on it.
7-Pack operatives 1. Flint (tactics/Field Commander) 2. Lady Jaye (intel) 3. Chuckles (undercover) 4. Bull Horn (negotiator) support 5. Lowlight (sniper) 6. Shockwave (breacher) 7. Wide Scope (dog handler) For a Cobra counter-part 7-pack: Weapons sale between Cobra/Crimson Guard and MARS 1. Tomax (in suit) 2. Xamot (in suit) 3. Black Out (sniper) 4. Fred series Shadow Crimson Guardsman 5. Baroness (IG uniform) 6. Metal-Head (mad bomber) 7. Iron Grenadier

But from Hasbro's standpoint, that might actually be a check in the pro column. They could get a lot of mileage out of a "dress uniform" mold.
I've always wanted a dress uniform box set that included five figures, one from each branch. Hawk (Army), Shipwreck (Navy), Ace (Air Force), Gung Ho (Marines) and Cutter (Coast Guard). The Hawk mold could be used many times for characters like the Flaggs, Austin, Col. Sharp, the Jugglers, etc. Oh and on topic, Id love to see a dress unifrom set, and below that a work uniform set (not combat), the base uniform casual trops is what we Coasties called it.

^(Freedom) Def yes. We all know that Hasbro is thinking they will not make money off these, but the way to go about it is 2 - 7 packs. Mostly with dress uniform/civilian (mix it up) and throw in a battle ready fig to help with the sell. I honestly believe even most of the people who will vote against this will want these if they are done right. Hell Hasbro can even throw in their usual suspects of Destro/CC in suit and tie, Zartan in military dress disguise, SE Stalker SS in military dress, of course the twins...etc. Renegades sets this up perfectly for Hasbro. Please take advantage of this great opportunity.

Why is it normal people get that the Coast Guard is part of the military but some guys in the military ( im retired) will argue till they are blue in the face? I just had a PM battle on Facebook with Optimus Prime ( yes thats his real name) finally convinced him when I showed him pictures of the Honor Guards at Arlington and the USMJ legal codes.

In my Army basic training, my platoon leader was a Coast Guard Search and Rescue Diver who was joining the Army Reserve as a medic. He was the equivalent of an E-7 in the Coast Guard, but while he was allowed to wear some of his awards and badges on his Class A's and could wear service stripes based on his Coast Guard service, he did not receive ANY rank, because at the time the Coast Guard was Department of Transportation, not Department of Defense. He was an E-1 private with three service stripes and a handful of medals (which led to a humorous incident at the airport on the way home for Christmas Exodus). So the regs are not always clear, and often contradictory. If that's changed recently I don't know, but it's certainly not clear-cut. The confusion comes from folks that don't understand that not all armed services or uniformed services fall under the Department of Defense. Last edited by Jmacq1; 01-06-2011 at 01:39 PM.. |

I just think a lot of people think of the Coast Guard as the red-headed stepchild of the U.S. military. You would know better than me so correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the CG under the Navy for a long time and now it's part of Homeland Security? I think people might, unfairly, consider the Coast Guard to be kind of "Navy light."
They did this one time that I know of in WW2 and the Coasties did most of the small boat ops. In english that means all the amphibious landing craft, higgins boats etc were for the most part operated and run by Coasties. They also used their smaller lighter ships as escorts for the Navy fleats and as submarine chasers and deterent. Our only Medal of Honor recipient was from the Pacific theatre. Here's a summary of his story: It was 27 Sept., 1942. Signalman First Class Douglas A. Munro wouldn't see the 28th. Munro, the first and only member of the U.S. Coast Guard to receive the Medal of Honor, had been aboard the the seaplane tender Ballard. Anchored just off Guadalcanal, the ship received word that 500 men from the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, had met fierce resistance from the Japanese and were pinned down on the beach, their backs to the sea. So bad was it that the Marines had begun to stack dead bodies - like sandbags - for cover. Munro immediately volunteered to lead five Higgins boats in to get them out. The signalman and his crew stayed low in the small boats as lead whistled and screamed overhead. As they neared the island the anguished cries and moans of wounded Marines grew louder, until a gentle bump followed by a scraping sound told the rescue team they had arrived in hell. The gray-helmeted Munro and his crew swung into action. The evacuation had begun. The Higgins boats, too small to remove all of the Marines at one time, made several trips from the island to ships. Near the end of the mission, when only a few Marines remained on the beach, enemy fire intensified, pinning them once again. Munro recognized immediately that the Marines were in an untenable position, and their deaths were imminent. He quickly placed his vessel between the beachhead and the enemy, thus drawing the fire to himself. When the last Marine was huddled safely behind the boat, Munro grabbed one of the Higgin's two guns and released a murderous burst of return fire, trying desperately to hold the enemy off until Marines could be taken aboard. Moments later he was mortally wounded. His crew, injured themselves, carried on until the last boat arrived and cleared the beach. Munro maintained consiousness long enough to utter these last four words: "Did they get off?" Assured that they had, he slowly closed his eyes and entered eternity. He died knowing he had sucessfully completed his last mission. As to current history they are under Homeland security which is adjoined to the department of defense as needed. Similiar to how the National Guard can still be deployed to war as needed. Currently our missions include the War on Terror, War on Drugs, Federal and State law enforcement on the water, Search and Rescue ( what they are most famous for) Security for Navy ships as needed ( I got to Escort the USS Cole back home to Phili) Fisheries enforcement ( poaching and haul counts) Disaster Response ( oil clean ups, hurricanes, etc) and many others. The coolest jobs imho are the Port Security teams and Small Boat Stations. They run interferance on our waterways 24/7 against drug runners, poachers and do random boardings on freighters coming to our shores. As to the current wars in Iraq they patrolled the Gulf at all times to keep our supply lines and ships as safe as possible. This meant dealing with pirates and terrorists that like to blow up their boats into the sides of ours.
