What color beret do ninja commandos wear?
In all seriousness, is commando a generic term or does it refer to a specific soldier? As an aside, I saw a show on the Military channel about Tanger school. It looked tough! Very informative program.

Commando is a term that can apply to any special ops unit. It commonly referred to UK's Royal Marines or the US Marine Raiders.

There is a "Ranger" school, and there is the Q Course - which is what you go through if you are "Special Forces" qualified.
EVERYONE (almost) goes to Airborne school. Rangers are NOT Special Forces (technically), although they work hand in hand. They do different things entirely. Rangers may serve in an entire Ranger regiment, while Special Forces guys will work in smaller groups 6-12 man small units. Different functions, different jobs.

I got out of the Army in 96 and went in the Air Force in 03. I was a 31C (Single Channel radio) but now am a 1A2 C-130 Loadmaster. I got too old to jump out of the planes and now throw stuff out instead lol. All I really did in group was years of slave labor at group and at SWC. As far as 10th is concerned, I work with them pretty much monthly as we drop them quite a bit, but I never worked much with them when I was in the Army. The aircrew world is far more my style anyways, I love to fly and I love per diem!

technically speaking...since that is what seems to be popular :P
beachead according to his convention filecard would not currently be wearing a green beret...he isn't assigned to an SF team. I would like to think that beachead over the course of his career (at least 27 years counting his time prior to being in GI joe...probably longer) would have at some point taken time to have gone through SF selection and training...perhaps crossed paths with falcon and returned with him in tow to the gi joe team. being both "tabbed and scrolled" (a ranger qualified ranger in the regiment) and having EARNED every beret...i can say when i was fresh out of ranger school i was peeved at the misuse and misunderstandings surrounding USSOCOM...i'm older now and it's honestly not worth the trouble to care...i think kids do that to you. but then you can also have ranger qualified soldiers ATTACHED to an SF unit...the lrrp unit i was in with HQ was attached to an SF team...their berets were green ours were black. back on point...as others have said...not all GBs are rangers and vice versa...however GBs are encouraged (strongly) and are fast-tracked up the priority list (meaning if all the slots are filled...and a GB is opting to go...someone is getting bumped) much like rangers in a ranger bat...are fast tracked through other schools when i joined my contract for joining guaranteed me airborne air assault and rip (ranger indoctrination program...3 weeks of "little hell" to earn a spot in a ranger battalion) i spent 5 weeks in holdover waiting for airborne...after graduation air assault for ft campbell was so far behind i opted out went to rip...once in the bat (1st bat HOOAH!) the only focus is to train and study for ranger school...after i earned my tab...i opted for air assault...3 weeks later i was sent to hawaii for 3 weeks...no holdover no waiting. |

I have so much respect for you guys its not even funny. I thought my wife and I were hitting splitsville and here I was out of the military and about to be on my ass. I bought books and started talking to reqruiters I was going to go airborne and shoot for Rangers or bust. Life intervened and we're better than ever now but Ive got that itch I never got to scratch and probably never will. Enjoy it for me!
Respect!

The Khaki Beret, on the other hand, seems to be pretty specific to the 75th Reanger Regiment... if you're not in the Regiment, you don't wear the Khaki beret - no matter if you're a Ranger or not. So, if anything, Beach-Head should be wearing a Green Beret as a Joe... and so should Flint, Duke, Falcon, etc. That is assuming that the Joes fall under USSOCOM.
