So, now to explain the difference between "Special Forces" and Rangers...
Ranger School is advanced Infantry Leadership training - and arguably one of the hardest schools in the U.S. Military. It is available to any Male Soldier, but is mostly availble to Infantry, other Combat Arms, and Special Ops soldiers (of which, "Special Forces" is a type). The 75th Ranger Regiment is the Army's premier Light Infantry Airborne Infantry Unit. They are considered a Special Operations Force, and function as the main light infantry component in US SOCOM. Every member of the Regiment is Airborne qualified, and (with the exception of a few support personnel) is an Infantryman and Ranger qualified. "Special Forces" is a "branch" or "career field" in the Army. It's like "Infantry" or "Armor" or "Artillery" or "Military Intelligence", etc. A Soldier must complete the Special Forces school at Ft. Bragg in order to be a Special Forces soldier... much like a soldier must complete the Infantry school in order to become an Infantry soldier. 40% of Special Forces soldiers are NOT Ranger qualified, but the other 60% are... some of them go to Ranger School after getting into Special Forces. Being "Special Forces/Green Beret" is a Job. Ranger is a qualification. They are neither mutually exclusive, nor necisarily linked. The Ranger Regiment is a group of "Ranger Qualified" Infantrymen... who can stay where they are, or try out for Special Forces, or Delta Force, or go to another Infantry Unit (lots rotate periodically to the 82nd).

Thanks for clearing that stuff up. Ive perused the file card thread but its a mess man and mostly off topic now. So what is the biggest differance between GB's and Rangers? Both are spec ops, can a Ranger go on and become a Beret? Or are these parallel career paths that dont intersect. In other words where do you go up from that point.
It's easily the best resource of file card/comic continuity and info on the forum.

I served with 4th PsyOps Group at Ft. Bragg. We were "Special Operations" and we worked with "Special Forces" often, but we were not "Special Forces". SF is a TYPE of Special Operation, but the two terms often get mistakenly used synonimously by people who do not know what they're talking about.

60% of Special Forces Soldiers (the famous "Green Berets") ARE Ranger qualified. Based on Beach-Head's Convention file card, he would be an example of a Green Beret who is Ranger qualified. Duke and Flint's file cards show that they are Green Berets who are Ranger qualified. Falcon, because he's a former Infantry Officer, is a Special Forces Officer who is Ranger qualified. There are whole lists of posts on the file card thread where the specific qualifications of individual Joes are spelled out.

I'm originally from Mississippi. I knew some guys from the 19th. What was your MOS? What did you do for the Groups? Are you at Ft. Carson now? Do you work with 10th Group?

You're welcome.
It's a great question about an issue that most Joe fans on this forum don't understand at all. It's the reason I was so angry that Sideshow put a black beret on Flint, and a red beret on Beach-Head... both of them should have been green. Hasbro really needs to do a better job with this stuff.

Its weird because family and friends are always name dropping others who "are in the special forces" or "he's a Ranger" or they think everyone's a green beret at some point. And you ask them what the person does and they have no clue. Rangers a qual like my rescue swimmer and small boat driver training was.
