I was cleaning out some stuff last night and came across the very figure that sucked me back into GI Joe: the 25th Snake Eyes v1 that came in the 5-pack.
To be honest I really didnt give much thought to GI Joe for over 10 years I think. I have 3 nephews, so I had seen a few of the GI Joe themes now and then, like Venom vs Valor, or the re-produced ARAH repackaged, and was never impressed. It wasnt until Sigma 6 came out did I raise my eyebrow, and that was when I started buying GI Joe for my nephews. Then I saw the 25th box sets and was BLOWN AWAY by Snake Eyes. I really just wanted him but couldn't justify essentially paying whatever it was for the box set (I really didnt care about the other figures). So after putting it off for a few weeks I caved in and bought it, and like everyone else, was really impressed with the figures. So then I picked up the Cobra 5-pack, and then just about every figure since, including ROC, Resolute, and then on to POC. I even went back and bought all the 1982-83 ARAH figures that I loved when I was a kid. And I have also gotten rid of most of them too. I can't believe how much I spent on these figures. Sometimes I bought doubles of them, since I would mashed the best parts to make a solid figure to overcome Hasbro's crappy quality control. I tried in vain to make customs of the original 13, since i hated most of what Hasbro released. If anything that was my biggest disappointment. Its been a crazy trip, and holding that 25th Snake Eyes v1 up last night was the guy who started it all, and is probably still my favorite figure. I don't know how much longer I'll be interested in buying them. I have gotten rid of more than I have kept. So if you were out for awhile, what brought you back in? |

I'm also not happy with the Original 13 produced so far, and I would LOVE to see an OG 13 set made mostly with the AOCI Zap body.
What brought me back in honestly was the DVD Packs. I ALMOST bought the 5 packs you mentioned when they first came out, I did later. I ALMOST bought some of the single carded figures too that came out shortly. But what sucked me back in were the DVD Packs. I couldnt resist and then I started customizing again and the rest is history.

My homie got me the original 5 pack for my birthday and then I had to get someone for them to fight so I got the Cobra pack. It has been a downward spiral from there.

The five packs, I tried to resist but after about a month broke down and was sucked right back in. I'm picky about what I pick up now but 25th stuff brought me right back.

It all started for me in 2008. I bought a 25th Major Bludd for like 10$ in a specialty toy store...then I started looking on ebay...got a few figs I liked as a kid...Beachhead, Firefly, SE and a few others...then on Christmas, my GF got me like 10 figures...That's what got me started...I have about 100 now including customs and POC...I only buy one of each figure and only collect one of each character...this way, I keep my collection small and I get to appreciate them more...I'll continue buying the figures that interest me here and there...POC is great for that, cause even if the figures are awesome, so are gold, others are pass...

Firefly. I saw some of the 25th Joe stuff when it came out. Before that, I hadn't paid too much attention to the Joe stuff, but I remember seeing some Sigma6 stuff. But when FF was released, I had to have it. And then I started trying to make custom FF's, and that snowballed into what I've got today.

age time and money kept me out for a long time my first collecting purchases were the reissued ARAH figures, I have the Duke, Ambush 2 pack that came in the jungle colors, and from there it a few figures here and there. Resolute got me full on collecting again. Resolute led to buying 25th stuff, and then ROC came out and I bought most if not all of that. Now Im in the process of eliminating doubles from my display and merging figures to create an ultimates series for myself. ROC was great for custom fodder, I display very few of those figures as they were now, most are modded in someway. POC is a godsend the figures and tooling have finally caught up with my personal style. I love the realistic figures and Im not giving up Joe any time soon.
