If they redid him then I'd use the MARS Trooper helmet. It has the vaguely samurai feel and looks like it would actually offer some protection. Even let him keep his katana, but for God's sake, give him some modern looking armor. Maybe PoC Duke's torso, Res Alley Viper/SS's arms, and maybe RIA Duke's legs.

Budo was a longtime fave of mine. He just gets the short end of the stick because they had already built up Snake-Eyes to be the be-all, end-all swordsman/hand-to-hand combatant in that stereotypical "comic book superninja" way. So straight out of the gate he's at best "second place" in his own specialty in the minds of many. He got shuffled aside even more quickly than Quick-Kick did. Though he didn't pay for it with his life.
I like the idea of Budo as a sort of third party to the whole Arashikage conflict. |

I never cared for him, but you make a good case, he may be my new close combat instructor for the green shirts

I loved me some Budo back in the day. The samurai sword that hung from his side was the shit. Never really used his helmet without it he looked like he had a Mohawk(those were cool in the 80's and are coming back now for some reason). He use to ride my green Robotech motor bike and whoop ass with old Snake-Eyes. This thread just reminded me I want a MOC Budo. Off to ebay.................

I liked him when he first came out. Then I read the ARAH issue with him, Repeater, and Lightfoot training to be joes. What a crappy issue. Totally ruined the cool figure for me. Then I read the file card and realized that he is only partially Japanese but was running around like a Japanese stereotype. Cool figure with crappy characterization.

I remember having this guy. I didn't want him but someone got him for me.
When the Ninja Force came out, I didn't like the action features- So I had Budo, Storm Shadow, Night Creeper, Night Creeper Leader, V3 Snake Eyes, Quick Kick, Jinx, and some others as my own "Ninja Force". Budo was the "Sword Master" and he taught Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow how to fight better with swords. When they went out on a GI Joe mission, Budo got killed and Jinx got kidnapped and we had to do a total "Ninja Mission" to Cobra Island to get them. It went completely Apeshit afterward. Ninja Force vs Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat. Shang Tsung allied himself with Bison's forces and Cobra to take over the world, and GI Joe had to send in the Ninja Force to defeat them... lol. It was fun. All that being said, he was fun for me as a kid. I kinda wish they'd give him a tactical makeover and preserve some samurai elements. |

I actually liked the character. I liked him because he wore the traditional albiet stereotypical samurai armor. Looking back now I liked a few characters who's outfits were questionable at best from a modern military standpoint.
If they were to do a retake on him I would love and up to date look. But who knows. The re-did Quick Kick and he looks like a Cobra-Kai student from the Karate Kid. |

Budo is sorta lame, that's why I gave you mine
Budo doesn't belong on an elite anti-terrorist squad; what place does a samurai have against a high-tech terror cell? I say fail.
