Are those rules/laws still valid/enforced today? Were they worried that it would be like brain washing kids?

I love that compilation of comercials. I remember some of the earlier ones. It's funny how the music goes "disco" when they introduce Zartan.

Back in 2002 or so there was a rule that there can be no commercials on that promote anything relating to the current show airing (IE: no commercial for Pokemon stuff while an episode of Pokemon is airing) This can be a problem when something like a commercial for Danimals comes on during Pokemon if Danimals is running a promotion concerning Pokemon |

Man. How many years has it been since I've seen that commercial? I had forgotten all about a very long time ago. Thank you for the trip down nostalgia lane. I don't know who that is that supplies the voice work, he did it for the cartoon too. I wonder if he's still alive?

The lyrics are so forced they're funny. I imagine the guys who did the music were real musicians who just sold out to make a buck.

I just watched the whole bunch of these on yojoe the other day. Brought back some memories that I didn't want to remember in the form of the ridiculous jingles that accompanied the otherwise awesome animation. Examples:
"He's an evil master of disguise....ZARTAN!! Changes color right before your eyes....ZARTAN!!" Yeah, get down to that funky beat, Zartan. Or: "But you're aboard the GI JOE DEVILFISH!! DEVILFISH!!!" I remember some spazz used to sing that while we played Joes in 5th or 6th grade....kid was obsessed with the Devilfish and would use it all the time, even when we weren't even playing a "sea" battle. He used it like a Landspeeder. Weirdo. |
