I was going through my 'extra' figs that aren't necessarily a part of my main collection. These figs I have on my b/s/t list, and seperated in boxes for trade. But when I get offers on some of the guys I have listed that are either more rare, or I just like the guy a bunch (i.e. POC Alley Viper), I realize that I just don't want to part with them. Call me sentimental, but those are awesome looking figs, and I just can't find them in stores anymore. So I decided to hold on to them.
Then the more I look at my list, I realize that if I find cool stuff like that in the wild, I can't get rid of them. Anyone else feel the same way? Whether its for customs, army building, or just enjoying the figs. |

Bah, I never played with my parent's toys. I prefered my own, they were cooler. My kids will want their own as well, not mine. I'm not going to my grave and sticking my kids/family with a bunch of useless plastic crap that they have to sort/sell/throw away. It's like eating a meal, but sticking someone else with the clean-up. It's not fair.
I try to keep my collection (relatively) lean by purging the excess every now and then. My rule is if I can't display it or not using it for customs, it goes. Otherwise, it's just hoarding. I can use the space for other things. OB

If my gramps or my dad left a bunch of old collectibles when they passed, I'd be less than bummed to "have" to go through them all. |

Nope, still comtemplating him. I just went through my extra box and realized that I didn't want to part with some of it. Wanted everyone else's opinion.

I have definitely experienced the same thing.
About a year ago, needing money and something to do with my time, I pulled out my entire collection (700+ figures, Joes, Star Wars, Marvel, etc.) and decided to unload them on the 'Bay. While doing that initial pass, I selected about one bin's worth of "Never selling." 8 months later, I was willing to let it all go, and have done just that. I put the money into other things (like new stock, as the business was helping us stay afloat during a 19 month stretch of unenployment) and, when there was some surplus, bought the odd toy here and there for myself (mainly vintage ARAH stuff.) The hardest stuff for me to let go of? My Mezco Hellboy comic series figures. I loved those things. Alas, they were doing me no good. If I get stinkin' rich one day when I'm old, I'll buy them again. And get the Kriegraffe this time too. So now... employed again, have the PoC figures I want, looking forward to Waves 3 & 4 and have a nice little cache of 30+ mint condition loose ARAH figures. Traded in quantity for quality, had fun doing it (learned a lot) and kept myself busy during our recession. But it can be hard to part with it. My daughter likes Hot Wheels, by the way. |
