How come the Joes have multiple arctic weather specialists, jungle specialists, and urban combat specialists, but never got any more desert warfare guys aside from Dusty?
Sure, there have been plenty of Joes that came in desert type camo outfits, but I'm not aware of any other desert specialists. What do you think? |

I guess its cause in the 80's the Viet-Nam war was still fresh and the US wasnt directly in any major War that had to do with the desert...Nowadays with Irak and Afghanistan, I'm sure they would do things differently IMO...

well, if the designers were kicking around in RI, its probably because they saw more snow than sand. That would be my guess

Maybe because the headquarters is located in the desert, so everyone is training in that climate already.

I'm thinking the era that Joe came out in is correct. During the
80's, the US was facing the Soviet Union and the terrain was mostly urban, forest and arctic. The extra head that comes with POC Zartan makes an excelent desert trooper, and Night Fox is a desert specialist. |

There were a few items:
1988 Spearhead & Max was a desert trooper and the 1988 Repeater figure was certainly useable as he was in a desert themed uniform. The 1988 Desert Fox vehicle with Skidmark certainly qualifies as well. 1992 Duke was considered to be a "Desert Storm" camo deco...which was later followed by the 1993 Battle Corps Duke which most certainly a Desert Storm camo. It was a shame that Hasbro was cutting so many corners at this point as the helmet doesn't come off. However, he is far better as a generic desert trooper than a Duke anyways. |
