So I've gotta know, as I go through different threads and read different posts, I keep coming up on the most curious sentiment being expressed. Apparently, and I had absolutely no foreknowledge of this, people dislike or even hate the character/toy of Duke. What I want to know is, why is this? What could possibly irk Tankers about Duke? For me, Duke is the representative of the old school 50s Joes with the buzz cut who were the basic military man, so what's the deal? Sound off.

I've got no problem with First Sergeant Hauser. However, Major Hauser from RoC was a poorly written, and poorly acted character. :/
I agree with you, though. Duke, in his original form, is pretty much the Senior NCO archetype. Tough, Fair, Capable. A real soldier's soldier.

Duke is actually my favorite Joe character, followed closely by Sgt. Slaughter. And if you don't like Duke after Resolute, then you'll never like the character.
I think the main issue with Duke is either one of a few things: 1. He is basically the "good" good guy. Fairly typical hero with actual morals. In this age we're all "too smart" for those great heroes and have to like the messed-up, emo, bitch-ass anti-hero type. I'll take Duke or Optimus Prime over any of today's modern heroes. 2. Comic fanboys never accepted his role because they are in love with the very original Joe team comic books. Larry Hama showed a ton of favoritism to certain characters and some just ate it up. 3. Duke hooked-up with Scarlett, and Resolute made the choice loud and clear. Take that Snake eyes marks! 4. Last but not least his toys basically clog the shelves every line. I can see this as being very annoying. Less is more sometimes, but for some reason Hasbro wants to put Duke in every situation and type of gear. Yes he's a flagship character, but I agree that we need to see less variations of him, and let other Joes have a chance to shine in plastic. |

I have to agree with above. Like Destro, SS, SE, and CC, there are just too dang many of them. I like the guy. Heck, he's the unofficial leader of the Joes. But when there's 50 some odd versions of him, he loses his luster.
That 25th version of him with lime green pants REALLY turned me off |
