I like this magazine and have read it in the past and have recently been picking them up since Ive gotten back in to Joes (Jan/Feb 08). I like the amount of G.I Joe coverage and pics. I believe the general concensus in the toy commumity is that 25 anniv Joes ROCK! My question is their price guide in the back. Some examples (all given as NMIP) they give in value (which I have no idea is based on)
Flint $20 (Loose he's worth only $5*) (I wish Ebay scalpers agreed) Snake Eyes w/black Timber $80 Snake Eyes w/ White Timber $30 Yellow Stalker $105 Stormshadow (v2) $12 Shark Tattoo Shipwreck $16 Anchor Tattoo Shipwreck $12 Firefly $12 (ya I wish I could get one for $12) Zartan color change $16 Zartan non-color change $12 (im finding these harder to find) Rock n Roll $16 Torpedo $18 (That seems higher than I'm seeing) Hooded cobra commander, Buzzer, Serpentor,Cobra Trooper,Red Ninja, Lady Jaye, Stalker (Green) $10 Cobra Officer, WAVE 1 Beachhead, Scarlett, Roadblock, Duke, Destro, Storm Shadow, Gung-Ho, CC, Airtrooper, Black commando Snake eyes (series 5) $12 WAVE 5 Snow Job, Flash, IG Destro, Crimson Guard $14 WAVE 6 Snake Eyes [v1] with fixed crotch, IG Destro, Crimson Guard, COBRA Trooper, Beachhead, Battle Armor CC $8 (I didn't think any collectors were questioning which wave the crimson guard/troopers were coming out of, not sure there is a difference) So I guess Im asking is the "fixed crotch" thing really that big a deal? What really is the diff?

and of course it's always in the comic/toy shop's best interest to give the lowest & most accurate price possible ;)

That's the thing though, the price guide isn't based on what the Shop dictates, it's based on current market value for figures. To my understanding, the price guide is based on average selling price per piece. It's not surprising to me at all to see the price on these figures fluxuate the way they have. It's only going to get harder to find the earlier waves since the 25th line sparked such a huge interest in people who don't normally look at G.I.Joe as their Main collecting focus. Less Supply + More Demand = More $. |

Well its like I was reading in the magazine: Toy values will go down if the manufacturer pumps out a bunch more of a toy to meet demand: We see a drop in Beachhead values, IG Destro, and the Battle Armor CC (that have supposedly become more widely available lately, seems almost everyone has wave 6).

Toy Fare is a great magazine for many articles and Twisted Toyfare Theatre (Mainly Twisted Toyfare Theatre IMO ) Other than that, it's 2 months behind and never really accurate with prices. Last one I picked up (January or Febuary) said Shippy with the Anchor tatoo was the HTF variant and worth like $18-$20. This was, of course, about 2 months after it was common knowledge that the Shark Tat is harder to find

The way I see it, current and recently completed eBay auctions are the only accurate "guide" in the hobby. Add at least another 10% or so the moment you walk into a brick and mortar shop that serves the secondary market.

Wave 6!!! I just got Wave 7 yesterday, but have yet to see Wave 6 in stores and I'm still waiting on my pre-order from BBTS, but I didn't place the order 'til late Feb. so I'm just gonna have to wait.
