I was watching Arise, Serpentor, Arise! the other day with my kids and realized that the reason I liked Beachhead so much was because he was featured in the Cartoon all the time. So I ask all Tankers...why do you like the characters you like?
Beachhead and Low Light- featured in the Cartoon a ton. Love the scene As for Falcon, there Sci Fi and Low Light shoot up a HISS tank and tell Wet Suit and Leatherneck to come back on amateur night. Beachhead just always looked cool. Snake Eyes, Stalker and Firefly- the Comic! Marvel (or just Larry Hama) took a great interest in developing Snake Eyes as the most bad ass GI Joe. Unlike what the cartoon did with Duke and SGT Slaughter, Snake Eyes was the best soldier of his time. Stalker was a great leader and you could tell that. The whole capture of him and Snow Job, Quick Kick kinda gave things a realism that a prominent character could be captured. Hit N Run, Slice and Night Force Falcon- the Toy line! Hit N Run was, for me, a great mold, a good character with awesome accessories. Slice was a cool looking ninja and by the time I was at age to really appreciate action figures he was my only ninja. As for Falcon, the colors were kinda strange, but for me they worked. I never got the original Falcon, but the Night Force version was my favorite. So what are you sources of inspiration? I know there are a lot of good "Joe Verses" out there. Why did some of you pick those character to develop? Last edited by RogueReSCuE; 09-24-2010 at 11:03 AM.. |

The comic and the 180 million figures is the reason I hate Snake Eyes. I never minded him in the cartoon, especially the 2nd season where he was basically a background character.

I like the comedic pairings of characters. My favorite is the Holy Trinity of Alpine, Bazook and QK.
In viewing the cartoons recently, I also dig the pairing of Footloose and Dusty in "Hearts and Cannons." "I'm Dr. Footloose. And that's Dusty up there. He's just an intern." Last edited by ero; 09-24-2010 at 11:31 AM.. Reason: Refined that Footloose quote. |

I was a dual military brat (parents divorced dad was navy mom was army) between that and gi joe is why i joined the military...but beachhead had if nothing but a small part in why i became a ranger.
stalker...never cared for him...ever...the first figure i had of him was a 12" doll...yeah grandma picked up on that i like gi joe...did NOT pick up on that i needed the "action figure" and not the "doll" (it's dangerous when you write down on your chistmas list "anything gi joe") sci fi...he was so cool back then. (v1 not that grey v2) anyone remember lasertag? with the helmets...picture one painted neon green and being warn by a kid running around post housing with a garden wand...yeah that was me. duke...HAH i never liked him...i referred to him as a "camera hog" when we watched the show it wasn't until much later that i picked up on snake eyes having multiple costumes/uniforms...i just always assumed there were more than one. the VIPER...yes my favorite character second only to beachhead the only one as a child i had 4 of...and when mercer was introduced mercer became my favorite because he was a viper...(and was a double agent) |

I liked the comics alot, but most of my joeverse is inspired by other properties like appleseed, ghost in the shell, Kerberos, etc. I like my joes to be near-future tech, in a cyberpunk world.
My favorite character is probably SnakeEyes, mostly because of his comic interpretations as well as the Story Archetype he fills. |

Most of my favorites were never big in the comics or cartoons (exception being Flint & Beachhead).
Hit 'n Run, Spearhead But my inspiration always came from the look of the figure and the filecards.

The comic was written around Snake Eyes, so if you liked the comic, you had to like SE. The reasons I liked him in the cartoon were:
1. He occasionally dressed in drag. 2. He could dance like a motherf---er. 3. He got beat up by female teenage gang members. 4. His pet wolf may have been gay. (you can observe 3 of these 4 reasons in one episode of the Pyramid of Darkness mini-series) |

Anyone ever think about Zartans relation to David Bowie Ziggy Stardust? I always think about that.
