Although I'm mostly only into 1/6th now one thing that has always bugged the crap out of me is the difference in how characters are drawn in comics and the actual figures that are released. It looks like Hasbro and the comic people would be a little more on the same page. Things were not that bad in the Marvel run but during the DDP era most of the drawn characters looked nothing like the Joe vs. Corbra- Valor vs. Venom figures that were being released and it seems to be the same with IDW. I might be more inclined to buy the figures if there were say some POC looking characters shown in the comic or if Hasbro made figures how the characters are being drawn.

I only buy anime and action figures as mementos... 25th Joes because they remind me of my beloved ARAH figs, Marvel Universe because they remind me of my beloved early 90's X-men comics and anime figs because of my love for that particular anime. If the figures do not look exactly like the image within my memory it bugs the hell out of me. LOL.
However, that is also not always the case, sometimes an updated or repainted fig actually looks better than the original version that was more true to a particular source material... like with 25th Dusty for example... or the entire POC line for that matter. But for the most part, for better or worse, I prefer it when the figure looks exactly as how they were depicted within the original cartoon or comic.

I get what you are saying but I don't think either of the toy lines you mentioned were supposed to be based on the comic books at all.
IDW at least in part is doing a great job of drawing the characters fairly true to their original counterparts in the 80s but there are some creative differences. Unless there is ever a line of joes that are supposed to be based on the comic books I don't think you are ever going to see them look exactly like their comic book art. Most of the time figures are based on cartoons because kids are more likely to see that than read the comic books. Im not saying you don't have a valid point because I've even made some IDW styled customs, but I don't think we can ever expect Joes based on comic book art.

I rarely ever change my clothes so if I were ever in a comic book I would hope my character would be "real world" accurate.

Sometimes I can't even tell who's who when the comic version isn't drawn exactly like the toy.

Of course IDW doesn't look like the toys...
There are no toys of the IDW comic characters.

I liked the early Marvel stuff where Torpedo went around fighting in a wet suit regardless of where he was.
The comics, and later the cartoon, were made to sell the toys. The toy designs came first for the most part and were followed by appearances in the comics or cartoon after the fact. Any differences are artist issues and not a fault of the action figures.
