hey i have had this dilemma lurking for some time and hoping for some insight.
is my joe collection going to be worth anything? i have been collecting joes since the 80's and have recently rekindled this collection craze with the release of the 25th anniversary series. the collection is getting out of control i feel, and has consumed my thoughts. now, it was never about the $$$ when i started, it was just pure enjoyment, now i just buy and store. am i destined for a prime time hoarding episode? |

Your collection is worth only what value you put on it, and what value someone else will buy it for. Its how I always looked at it

I am not sure if you are destined for a episode of hoarders or not. I guess the question is do you have plenty of room to live?
Is the collection for the most part organized to some degree? Is your loved ones buried under the mountains of Joes? Does TRU call the police everytime you go in? If you feel you need to get rid of it then just send it to me :P

Your collection should not be an investment. If it is worth anything later on great but the real value is in how it makes you feel today.

If the OP has some of the more saught after vintage items in very good condition then he could actually make a little money depending on condition. The problem is that for every 1 item that is a hot item worth some money he probably has a bunch of other items not worth so much. It really depends on how popular it is, what condition it is in, and finding the right buyer. If the OP can be more specific like "I have a mint loose Skystriker 100% complete" then people can chime in and say he has something worth X amount of dollars. IMHO the 25th line has turned a lot of would be vintage collectors into modern figure collectors. |

The line with the stock market was, if everything else fails you always had something to use for wallpaper. Collect because you want to, not as an investment.

The room issue was never an issue. i think its the idea of accumulating this stuff..what am i going to do with it all? And yes the TRU staff is giving me that "not you again look", afterall the dough i spend there can feed a small village in some 3rd world. anyway, when i do decide to pull the trigger and feel the urge to unload the collection, ill keep ya in mind. |

I don't see it as a problem if you are enjoying it. If you really like collecting and not hurting anyone in the process than there is nothing wrong. If it stops being a hobby and is an every day obsession then you might want to think twice about it.
