I'm done with it. I walked away from collecting a few months ago and I feel great. I got my life back. No longer being concerned with what is out, when it's coming out, how I'm gonna get it, how I'm gonna display it, how I'm gonna store it..yadda,yadda,yadda has been liberating. This is not a knock on the community here (I'm still friends with many of the guys on HT) but I grew my balls back if you know what I mean.
Bottom line is if you have fun collecting then keep it up. If you're only collecting because you think one day it's gonna make you a rich man then it might be time to hang it up. I still search for vintage items (because that is fun to me) but I don't search ebay for hours on end for the stuff anymore like I once did. If I stumble across it then I get it. Otherwise I only frequent the toy stores for my kids now..which I think is how it should be. nuff said..just my opinion. Im going to give it a spin. The occasional peak at the Joe pegs at TRU cant hurt though right? |

And do you really believe there is no more 3rd world? how would you like to be in a place where the value put on a humans life is 0, and you're constantly looking over your shoulder knowing somebody is eyeballing you as the next vic. Our military is dragging, most of these "developing countries" kicking and screaming into the 21 century. btw ive been to the favelas down south, they aren't any better |

not at all. I may pick up one here and there if I think it looks cool but that's about it. 9 times out of 10 I usually end up giving it to one of my kids anyway. I still love toys (that's something that will never change) but I had to stop collecting for my own sanity.

sell the stuff you bought on impulse. and use that money to buy the stuff that is hard to find or exclusives you dont have.
another thing, you dont have to buy off of every line. i have left roc and poc in the dust. i have no interest. i have gone and weeded out my 25th and pretty much sold them what i have paid for them. i just look at it like money in the bank. you put in 5 and get out 5. sometimes you may loose a few bucks. only some items will you actually be able to sell for profit. but by the time it is said and done. time, gas to the post office, the gas you used to go toy hunting ect. you might be lucky to break even. only my shrine holds my favorite stuff. not what everybody else thinks is hot

I flew the coup with ROC. Hated the look. Now with POC, I look at the joes, and Yea, they look cool, but I just lost interest. I guess I just loved the 25th line more than anything. I think Im gunna unload most of my MOC stuff. The stuff I will keep are the comic packs. I have every single comic pack including the O-ring comic packs ( im just missing the last Gung ho and deep six wave if anyone has it and wants to trade something for those three) I grew up with the comics, and to me the comic packs are my favorite items. recently Ive picked up a few of the Human Alliance transformers. As I sit in my office, ive moved my Joes inside, and now in my Office sit a few TFs. Part of my logic with the 25th line, was that I was going to accumilate extra MOC figs, so that someday, My Son, could have them and open "cool" joes like I did when I was a kid. Well, that logic has quickly dissolved, because I realize my son may or may not be into this when He is older. and if he is, would he really want to open 10 year old Joes, when there are new ones he wants to get at the store? Yea...my logic was unsound, and I think it was just my brain tricking myself into thinkin "im doin this my for my boy!!" I dont blame Hasbro, but ROC killed it for me. Sure I bought some POC stuff, but all the time ROC was going killed my "passion" for the new stuff. Now I would rather find busted and worn out 80's stuff from flea markets and garage sales than new stuff.

Well, the way I look at it is.........pretty much the same that most people have stated.
I collected Joes as a kid for fun. I started collecting again in 2007 when the 25th Anniv. stuff came out. I have never collected thinking that it would bring in some cash. Now, I have sold some stuff on eBay for more than I paid for it -- ARAH and 25th/ME stuff alike; but I've also lost money on eBay. I bought a Raider because I never had one and I thought it was cool, but when I got it, I realized I didn't really like it and didn't have a place for it in my collection, so I sold it on eBay for $15 less than I paid!!!! So I figure that I've broken even overall, maybe. But I buy the stuff I buy because I think it looks cool or it means something to me sentimentally. I DO NOT want to get so much stuff that I can't display it. I don't just wanna have something just to say I have it; I want to show it off. So that helps me keep my collection in check. And the cool part about Joe stuff is that you can get some return on it -- for instance, if I had to sell some stuff because of hard times, I know I'd get something for most of my collection. It probably wouldn't be what I paid for it at retail, but at least I wouldn't have to worry about just giving it away. Well, there's my $0.02, now worth less than a penny.

hey i have had this dilemma lurking for some time and hoping for some insight.
is my joe collection going to be worth anything? i have been collecting joes since the 80's and have recently rekindled this collection craze with the release of the 25th anniversary series. the collection is getting out of control i feel, and has consumed my thoughts. now, it was never about the $$$ when i started, it was just pure enjoyment, now i just buy and store. am i destined for a prime time hoarding episode? |
