If you feel that your are "hoarding" and it's becoming a problem then I suggest that you go through everything you own and decide what stays and what goes.
I suggest that you only keep the items that you really want and feel that you can't live without. Only do this though if you really feel that your collection is overwelming your living space and is causing an unhealthy living condition for you and your family.

Make a man-cave to show off your collection so you can enjoy it every time you look at it.

Exactly! I won't buy anything that I don't really like AND have room to display. Most of my stuff is displayed in dioramas of varying size. An item does nothing for me in a Rubbermaid storage tote. Rip 'em open and display them. Anything you don't want to display is something you don't need. At least that's what works for me. If you're questioning your collection, then maybe you need to change your collecting habits.

Its never been an investment for me. I collect what I like providing I can spare cash to buy it.
Bottom line is I like these things. And I wanna keep them for me. And granted I open them or buy them open, maybe its my way of remembering a more simple time when I didn't have responsibility, or bills or problems...whatever the case my collection can't be measured in terms of monetary value...I'm sure it has some cash value, but the value it holds to me is incalcuable. I hope I never come to a day when I sell it...I tried once you know...sold off my Moray back in the 90's...broke my heart. Bothered me for YEARS, I recently aquired one and righted that wrong. You ask us the value of your collection. Will it be worth anything. Truth is Clark Griswald said it best at the end of Chrismas Vacation, "It mean something differant to all of us...and now I know what it means to me." So what's its value to you? |

response to dagger--
you're right! its priceless to me, hence the collecting habit. but i have never been home long enough to enjoy it. perhaps therein lies my problem. i tested the waters a few months ago when i decided to liquidate some of the collection by selling a mint skystriker, 100%, box and all. i hate to say it but it broke my heart. seperation anxiety..perhaps. |

I agree with ya there I like getting joes/TF's/other Lines 4" figures for cross over pics .mainly cuz I like doing dio shot's but I had never really put all my figures up on stands untill recently and was like Wooah thats a lot of generic troops. and its not that I went outa my way to get that many I just kept getting another one or two in a swap along with figures I realy needed to complete character set like the OG 13 and such. but saying that it really tear into me if I got rid of them all. but I do realise I need better Storage for the vehicles as they take up far to much space..
btw stop showing me that pic cuz now I wanna be Kevin James :P Quote:

I'm done with it. I walked away from collecting a few months ago and I feel great. I got my life back. No longer being concerned with what is out, when it's coming out, how I'm gonna get it, how I'm gonna display it, how I'm gonna store it..yadda,yadda,yadda has been liberating. This is not a knock on the community here (I'm still friends with many of the guys on HT) but I grew my balls back if you know what I mean.
Bottom line is if you have fun collecting then keep it up. If you're only collecting because you think one day it's gonna make you a rich man then it might be time to hang it up. I still search for vintage items (because that is fun to me) but I don't search ebay for hours on end for the stuff anymore like I once did. If I stumble across it then I get it. Otherwise I only frequent the toy stores for my kids now..which I think is how it should be. nuff said..just my opinion.
