Just for general knowledge. Not all security watch standers are MPs. While all branches have specified security specialists, it's likely that guy you see at the gate of the post or base is a typical watch stander. This shift is usually assigned as their duty every few days based on the rotation in addition to their regular job. Roaming security watches are often assigned to lower enlisted persons. Which means that as it translates to the world of G.I. Joe, that it's quite possible that a green shirt whose specialty is not physical security (MP) to be assigned the watch.
