While mine is my favorite, two major universes were left out: IDW's comic universe which probably would have gotten my vote and DDP's universe which Hasbro now states is an alternate universe and not the continuation of RAH which of course it was originally. So DDP and IDW's verses - the two most recent comic verses aren't here.

This doesn't seem like much of a contest. How many people are clamoring for a return of GI Joe Extreme? Did anyone really pay attention to Sgt. Savage?

Like a few others here, mine is my favorite. Mine does take a lot of influence from classic Marvel, the IDW reboot and even a little from ROC(though it is far from my favorite Joe Verse). I look forward to what they do with Renegades - there are some interesting ideas along with a few that seem like clunkers.
In a different vein, I do like the Adventure Team as well. |

Beat me to it.
Mine is my favorite, it essentially follows the Marvel / DDP storyline, but no one dies, they just get hurt and may not ever be able to resume active in field duties or just go missing. Also the sub units are all new characters not repaints of existing ones, and them along with a few custom characters I have made have stories in and around, before and after the Marvel / DDP iverse. |

I also prefer my own assumptions and mythology over any of the choices. The cool thing about G.I. Joe for me was that I always approached it unlike any other childhood franchise. I grew up watching Star Wars and playing with the toys. While it has remained my no. 1 interest in this area, G.I. Joe was the one that I got to create the most for myself. I didn't read the comic as a kid, only as an adult. I watched the cartoon in reruns, but never really saw it as an absolute. The Hama comics of the 80s totally contradicted my own mythology and the cartoons handled my favorite characters in such an irreverent manner that I dismissed that version of them almost as soon as the episode ended. As I grew up, I maintained my love for the original Star Wars movies, but I also learned to despise the direction in which they were being taken. I had to learn how to drill that crap out of my head. I'm glad I didn't have to do that with G.I. Joe. I just never exposed myself to anything that might contradict my own perspective. I don't know enough about any of the new comics to choose one. Star Wars and G.I. Joe isn't a new archeological dig or a stack of recently-found WWII documents. I enjoyed Resolute, but never thought new character designs were needed. The whole cartoon was practically an apology for treating these characters as though they were for kids, when that fact is why any of us learned to give a shit in the first place. I'm jaded. That's just about all I can really say. I appreciated the movie, because as much as it failed, it tried, as best it was going to be able, to give some plausible couching to the franchise. But, it was still just for kids -even if adults convinced themselves to like it for something it wasn't. When I was a kid, Cobra Commander wasn't a stone-ag mutant, used car salesman, OR a jilted army vet. I'm sure my next step is going to be complaining about the price of postage and why funny books aren't all that funny anymore, but I grew up knowing how to send an e-mail and my comics were never funny. Whatever these characters become in the furutre of this constantly-evolving franchise, I already know what I like. It isn't being closed-minded, just aware of what I like in this case.

Resolute, IDW, DDP, all left out, also, no distinction between Marvel and Sunbow...
We only have the ability to create 10 options for every poll, so I tried to stick to the toys. Also, I'm not talking which is the best, but what are some of your favorites? I like a lot of what Sgt. Savage and Extreme has to offer, and I thought maybe there were some other Tankers out there who felt the same way. |
