Joe could have 10 different story lines and I'd try to follow them all (not saying I'll like them all) but I'd give them all a chance! I guess the way I see it (like you mentioned) that someone is bound to find they're niche with it and if that means that GI Joe will continue on in some form or another...well than how is that a bad thing?
I guess the real point that I was trying to make, is that with all these different versions out, it just seems they're just watering it down too much. From my POV, which I'm sure someone will point out how wrong I am about this, it seems like Joe would be served better by 1 or 2 strong media outlets with some tie-ins along the way. And to have it all happen in the same universe so that there's no conflicting story lines and multiple origins for the same characters. |

I agree with that. Anything that keeps Joe going is good even though I may not like it. I remember when Sigma 6 came out, that I thought it was really cool for little kids, but there was no way that I was going to buy one.

Plus like I said, over half of those versions that you mention are either already complete and no longer a factor, or catered to such a niche market that they're irrelevant to the general public. Renegades will be the "strong media outlet" starting in October, and everything else will take a back seat until the movie sequel. |

I think that the watering down theory, from a business standpoint, would hold weight if they were to overproduce. Which they did with RoC. If they are going to run multiple universes and multiple merchandise lines to support those universes. Then as long as they can truly accurately gauge the demand, and supply accordingly, then I think it's smart. Atleast until they find that ONE media that seems to grab everyone, or almost everyone, and makes Joe a part of pop culture again. Once they find that, then the multiple takes on Joe might prove truly counterproductive. However, until they find that magic recipe, they're probably wise to try and cater to as many people as they can on smaller scales.

The thing is, each media outlet is governed by differing bodies. even properties like Spider Man are different in every incarnation. Every single cartoon series was different to the comic book, the movies had their own continuity (and about to be rebooted again). Even the comic continuities are different (Ultimate vs Marvel Age vs Marvel U etc) It's just nature that we progress, things change and fondly thought archetypes have to change and evolve to suit a new and expanding audience. Within each iteration, individual creators / producers / show runners will stamp their imprint and then move on. |

sure why not. In the past people were complaining there wasn't enough joe. Especially with the lack of material from Devils Due. Now there is more, so how can that be a bad thing?

I don't care too much about having different storylines for the film, animation, and comics, but it would be nice to know how the IDW reboot comic titles are supposed to hang together (assuming they are - if not, we've got something like 10 storylines on the go!). Atm it's almost as if each of the IDW titles exists in its own little world, without reference to what's happening in the other titles.

I actually prefer it when one writer gets to do their own adaptation of characters rather than having to use everybody else's.
I think I'd like SW EU a lot more if each author had been given autonomy to write their own sequel story to ROTJ. Combining it into one Universe made it utterly ridiculous.
