This is probably me just applying real world thinking to the fantastic world of G.I. Joe but I recently watched an episode of Future Weapons and they talked about the Joint Strike Fighter and how impressive that whole project was/is. Today I picked up the Ghost Hawk and it got me thinking that if the JSF can be made, then something like the Ghost Hawk could actually be made real. I wonder what company would have the contract to make G.I. Joe's vehicles? I'm not sure if this was ever brought up in the comics but I think in the movie's context it may have been M.A.R.S. But the obvious answer is and always will be, Hasbro God bless'em!

I like your line of thinking but there are two American examples of GH type craft, the Harrier and F35. Aside from small UCAV's I don't think a manned aircraft can be made as small as the GH, it would be cool but all the stuff thats in a warplane limits how small you can get. I guarantee that if we could make very small, stealthy, supersonic aircraft, we would. Because a small craft makes a small target. But the way things are going, you might see civilian aircraft of that size, just look at the flying car:

Well, a lot of early 80's Joe vehicles were actually based on real world designs, so for those it probably would've been the actual companies (there was a nice thread where someone actually researched the real world versions of everything from the MOBAT to the Warthog, but I couldn't find it). For example, the original VAMP variants would probably have been made by Lamborghini (http://www.timpelen.com/images/cars/cheetah_img01.jpg).
It is fun speculating what companies would be involved in the more fantastical designs, however. Part of the trick (or crutch, depending on one's point of view) is that given how fictional some of these designs are (and how fictional the physics are behind them), you can always throw in a fictional company or two where there's gaps in real world tech or aesthetics. One has to also wonder about the contracts for these designs. Does the US evaluate them, decide they're not feasible for overall use, then buy a dozen/hundred for 'experimental' use before handing them over to the Joes? Except in the cartoon where everyone knows who the Joes are and see them on TV everyday, in many 'verses they officially don't exist, so the vehicles probably wouldn't either.

Actually, The Marine Corps Harrier was modified from the British Harrier and it was built under license by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft.

I'd love to see more real-world designs. The F-35N is a great carrier capable fighter and in all honesty, would be the future of Joe aircraft issued today. What would also be great is getting a reissue of Mainframe but at the controls of some Predator drones. But who would get the contract? I'm not sure what your question is.

An example of this is "Batman Begins". Lucius tells Bruce that WayneTech built 2 of the Tumblers for the Army, but they were turned down. It's possible someone could "borrow" the design for later use. I decided that the Joes get a lot of stuff that's used by the regular military, like the AWE Strikers, plus experimental stuff designed and built by Stark Industries and Matt Trakker.

I was just talking about this in another thread, but the difference between the JSF and the GH is that the JSF is an "aerodynamic" craft with actual wings. The GH is a flying boxcar. It has no primary airfoil with which to produce lift. It's a cockpit with an empennage. The drag coefficient would be absurd and since a bulk of an aircraft's fuel is stored in the wings, this baby ain't going far. I'm all for VSTOL aircraft but this baby has some serious design flaws.
