Tankers,
A few months after I joined the 'tank, I bumped into a fellow tanker (Drunknmunky) in the aisles of Toys R Us in Clearwater, Florida. We chatted for about half an hour and he was a pretty nice guy. Last week, I met a guy in TRU who is a member of he-man.org. We were both looking at the DCUC VS Masters of the Universe releases and we talked for a good hour about all sorts of toylines and stuff. How awesome it is to find a person who knows what you're talking about! I mean, my girlfriend is patient and understanding about my toy addiction, but she really just listens. She never adds comments or has anything to say. I don't blame her, it's just not her thing, but it's GREAT to chat and compare notes with someone who can understand about scalpers, army building, dio-stories and customizing!!! I see males my age (37) in Target/TRU/Wal-Mart toy aisles all the time and I am always tempted to ask them what they collect and find out their interests. I try to steer them to visit the tank and join, also, if they are really collectors. What usually ends up happening is mothers start asking me questions about toys for their kids and I help them find stuff they're looking for or older ladies tell me they remember buying Joes for their sons when they were little. Should we have a secret code or signal so we can identify each other at stores and in the aisles??

Totally. If you think somebody is a Tanker, try to unzip their pants. If they stop you, they weren't a Tanker. If they don't stop you, you may want to quickly look deep into his eyes to find out why.

Yes, you should suddenly scream out the Star Spangled Banner in the middle of the store....
JK, you should probably make a hand signal of some sort.

If I see someone rooting through the Joes while I'm there, I causally ask them, "You lookin' for Bolo?"
If he says, "You don't find Bolo, Bolo finds you!", then he's a Tanker. If he says, "No, is he worth a lot?", then he might be a scalper. >_>; |

In addition to this, is there any way to have a geographic listing for Tankers? Such a thing would have to be voluntary, cuz I'm sure some don't wish to be found. But think of how much more convenient would it be to trade with folks who live near you? I'd save a ton on shipping, and I'd very likely make a few new friends. Just thinkin' out loud...
