The Gi Joe brand is alive and well. However as many of you have seen they have lost the clout they had in the 80's. One of my posts talked about how an old man at TRU told me they would have at least twice as much space a few years back. Well now we're dealing with 1 or 2 cases per TRU of the new stuff. I think in order for GI Joe to hit mainstream Hasbro needs to allow a good team to use the license to make a good 1st/3rd person shooter in order to attract a new following and introduce new tired characters. Halo branched off to toys after starting as a game and so have many others. If Hasbro would finance such a venture they could literally hit gold on the investment. The game and toy sales would be high if they actually took the time to make it right.
I think they could use a semi-futuristic theme where some of the older Joes and Cobras are now retired. Old Snake Eyes, General Duke, and stuff in some younger counterparts. They could battle a more politically involved Cobra threat from a fictional superpower or something. Possibilities are endless. |

a video game would be a good place to start.
i'm hoping if they do a 30th anniversary line to any degree... it'll be ALL new characters.

Do you think starting a collaboration of ideas here at the tank and then pitching them with a rough storyline would do any good? they must have people would listen to this type of stuff.

The more you think about it the more exciting a really good video game could be.
- You could chose between Joe & Cobra - You could have team / multi-player or versus modes - You have a variety of landscapes to fight in (land, sea, air, desert, jungle, artic, city etc) - You have a variety of not only characters but vehicles, then on top of that weaponry Unfortunately, the graphics would prob be downplayed so it would be short of "killing" your enemy but hot damn would it be fun.

Well they could make the main enemy BATS or drones in order to avoid too much bloodshed. The number of characters and figures a video game would pump out is nearly endless. The obvious, older characters, as well as the younger soldiers in various environmental gear.

Even an option for team play kind of like the recent Marvel Ultimate Alliance games where you can pick a team of four Joes (or Cobras) to try to accomplish a mission.
IMHO, while the ROC game was ok and just a fun play if you are playing along with someone... it wasn't all that special.

I'd like to see them reintroduce the old characters - correctly.

I'd be on board for a new 1st person action game that captures the thrill of G.I. Joe and helps to re-energize the line... here are my thoughts:
Game should take place in a present day situation and focus on real world threats: (example could be the current economic crisis, current War against Terror, etc) Players should have the opportunity to play as either Cobra or Joe and design their own look for the game, and also have the opportunity to betray their current team (ie can switch from Joe to Cobra with just making a few changes) Game should be a 1st person shooter (which can be viewed also as a 3rd person perspective) - as well as the opportunity to drive land vehicles, sea vehicles and fly planes etc. (always dreamed of climbing into the cockpit of the Skystriker and blasting Rattlers out of the sky) First person shooter would be awesome for the Wii. All characters for the Joe Universe should be made as a playable character and or have a spot in the game. (ie I want to see characters from ARAH as well as ROC battling side by side). Game should also have an exclusive action figure packaged with the game, ie perhaps something along the lines of Star Brigade, or Super Solider etc... something cool. Game should NOT be exclusive to any one platform...it should be made for all game consoles (Wii, PSP, PS3, X-BOX 360, PC, DS, etc.) Characters should die in the game and not have the ability to be brought back to life: example if your team consists of Duke, Scarlet, Snake Eyes and Grunt for instance and Grunt is gunned down and Scarlett is wounded.. Grunt cannot be brought back to life and Scarlett continues on until her health meter is negative. storyline: present day: Cobra threatens the world with Terror attacks on both US and foreign soil - no one is safe. the threat of nuclear war is all around. Cobra Commander begins to launch his forces against the combined Armed Forces of the world in one last final battle for ultimate control of the World...the only thing that stands in his way is the ultimate fighting force known as G.I. Joe. Yo Joe !!

I think a gi Joe themed shooter would be awesome! My only problem is that it'll probably be geared towards children. Since gi joe is intended for children, it probably wouldn't be a good move for hasbro to make a more adult themed (which is what I would prefer) gi Joe game. Also with an adult theme comes allot of stiff competition from games like cod, battlefield, moh, halo... The list goes on. It might be more realistic to have a game like roc that doesn't have all the problems that roc did. As much as I would LOVE a fps gi Joe game, it bums me out cuz it's probably never gonna happen. PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG HASBRO!!!
