While I hate the movie...I despise S6, so taking a character from 1 and tossing it into another is beating a dead horse...at least Stone was ok in the movie.

Sgt Stone looks more like Flint.
Maybe he was Flint, got hardened and become Stone. He refused to be renamed Flintstone, so he just said "fuck you, i'm Brendan with Gung-Ho's tattoo!" and he got named Brendan Ho. Despite making dubious decisions, Hasbro refused to release a Ho figure.

What I hate, is that everyone wants to call Sgt Stone a Marine because of the tattoo in the movie. But everyone hates the movie and wants to erase it from GI Joe history.
The figure has a beret. Marines don't wear berets. Neither of his filecards say he's in or has ever been in the Marines. What it does say is he's a Special Operations Instructor. Sgt Stone is Army. Now let's move along. The beret is standard Joe unit issue, has nothing to do with the unit he was in prior to beng assigned to the Joe team. The Joe team needs more Marines, so this is an oppotunity to give 'em more Marines. Edit: Right now, as a matter of fact, in the Filecard thread, we're looking at whether Sandstorm (the canceled figure from the Target pack) can be considered a Marine. The reasoning: he's an MP and a motorcycle driver, and the Marines are the only ones that still use motorcycles. Flimsy, but thats what most of RoC is to work with.

Special Operations, which the Marines are part of.

Flimsy, but thats what most of RoC is to work with. it wasn't until '05 that a couple of Marine Force Recon units were assigned to work with USSOCOM. they formed MARSOC. so just as with all other branches not ALL Marines are spec-ops...so technically speaking if any GI Joe was assigned to i think the 1st/2nd recon units from 05-06 or 1st 2nd and 3rd in 09...then they are from USSOCOM otherwise they are Marines or former Marines that were later assigned/transferred to the joe team and no US Marines do not wear berets because they went to ranger school...ranger qualified earns you a tab of "black and gold" being assigned to a battalion earns a scroll and tan beret you don't have one without the other. the terms LRRP and LRSU are still used interchangeably in battalion my time in the bat i was attached to the lrsu unit with HQ and were referred to as LRRP both verbally and in writing. |

FWIW, US Navy special ops units (seals, eod, swcc) are SpecWar.
